Just a reminder that I wrote a whole PhD dissertation on the social and economic roots of Gamergate and the alt-right, in case youโ€™re interested in understanding fascism and its connection to the games industry + academia from a materialist POV. spectrum.library.concordia.ca/id/eprint/98...

Climate action can feel slow โ€“ but the fastest energy leap in history has begun Weaning ourselves off fossil fuels is glacially slow โ€“ย isnโ€™t it? This pessimistic narrative doesnโ€™t stack up against evidence of very rapid change in the real world.

It feels slow not because of facts, but because the doom-narrative drowns out reality. ๐Ÿ“‰ The truth: solar doubled from 1,000 โ†’ 2,000 TWh in just 3 yrs, windโ€™s surging too. Fossils took decades. The fastest energy leap in history is hereโ€”donโ€™t let fear blind you. โšก๐ŸŒž #EnergyTransition #BESS #EVs #LFP

Maybe your headline should be "President Trump threatens to illegally defund CA over girls playing sports"

Include a counter narrative in your piece for the love of god. Don't just uncritically regurgitate Linda McMahon. WTF is wrong with you.

Donald Trump ran for President promising to end wars, not start new ones. Todayโ€™s unconstitutional military action represents a new, dark chapter in his endless series of betrayals that now threaten to plunge the world deeper into chaos. In a city as global as ours, the impacts of war are felt deeply here at home. I am thinking of the New Yorkers with loved ones in harmโ€™s way.

While Donald Trump bears immediate responsibility for this illegal escalation, these actions are the result of a political establishment that would rather spend trillions of dollars on weapons than lift millions out of poverty, launch endless wars while silencing calls for peace, and fearmonger about outsiders while billionaires hollow out our democracy from within.

For Americans middle aged and younger, this is all we have known. We cannot accept it any longer.

This past weekend, as hundreds of game workers flew into LA to attend Summer Game Fest, Immigration and Customs Enforcement terrorized the Los Angeles community, raiding neighborhoods, separating families, assaulting citizens, and detaining SEIU President David Huerta.

Many of us in the game industry call Los Angeles our home, and we feel these attacks on a deep and personal level. United Videogame Workers-CWA stands in solidarity with SEIU, UNITE HERE, United Farm Workers, SAG-AFTRA, The Animation Guild, IATSE, and all our fellow unions and organizations condemning these ongoing federal raids targeting workers.

We are thrilled that David has been released and echo SEIUโ€™s calls to drop his unjust charges and for ICE to immediately end their violent raids against us and our neighbors.

The United States is built on the backs of immigrant workers, documented or otherwise, and the Trump administrationโ€™s racist and violent oppression serves only to undermine our labor and strike fear in our communities. As workers of an anti-racist union; as workers with H-1B visas; as workers with immigrant families and friends and colleagues; we condemn these abhorrent acts of outright fascism and colonial subjugation.

Our game industry is a deeply international one, and our art is built from cultures and perspectives that simply cannot and will not be contained by borders. UVW-CWA exists to protect all game workers across the US and Canada, regardless of immigration status, and we strive to extend that reach to all corners of the globe through connections and shared struggle.

When solidarity transcends nations, no human is illegal!

This is a clear attempt by Rowling to cut out a movie cast that have all since denounced her and her bigotted views.

Now every mug and poster with Harry Potters face will be these new actors, cutting out residuals and licensing for the og trio, who were willing to stand up to her.

Lol. They released their 400 page US version of the Cass Review and refused to even name who the authors were. It's a glorified book report.

A reminder that on this site folks may be aware that Trump got basically nothing new or substantive from Mexico or Canada but over on the other place, and out in parts of the real world, the GOP are successfully and ruthlessly spinning these as wins.
