I finally canceled my subscription to the NYT this month and I should have done it sooner.

This is one of the stranger forms of American exceptionalism, that the United States isn't the one proactively doing/supporting all these awful things. This includes the constant sentiment that we're being "dragged" into war, as if the United States could be dragged into anything.

The way authoritarians seize and keep power is to generate both domestic and foreign enemies. The more the better, as far as they are concerned. That's a big part of the outsized drama this week.
