it is pretty darkly funny seeing posts like URGENT!!!! it is SUNDAY EVENING you must PUT DOWN YOUR DINNER and call your senator IMMEDIATELY to politely request they not press the big button marked "fuck you". this will not actually stop them from pressing the fuck you button. functioning democracy

Target was my absolute favorite unplanned winter evening outing for years, but I joined the boycott earlier this year and nothing they've done since has made me regret that

Target thinks they can dig their way out of this hole. Amazing!

Fuck Target for treating their workers like this. More and more reasons for me not to go back.

Target is now requiring its employees to smile more As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more β€œjolly” to their work routine.

"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

πŸ™„ Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

The lesser evil is still evil. Harm reduction still causes harm. And the legal system will not save us.

She's not the villain. But this legal system IS. Multiple things can be true at the same time.

People want her decision to be morally good because she is morally good.

And it's all because some of us have decided that we can't be genocided again if we're the Oppressors. Well I for one didn't think the takeaway from the Shoah was that being Nazis was super cool and we should get a turn at the hate wheel.

I mean I agree with you & Jarrett. It's clearly true that at least half of MLB teams can't even approximate the Dodger way. Toronto is actually a great example of my willingness argument because they've been competitive for most of the last decade and a big part of that is trying hard in free agency

02.11.2025 05:30 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I admire the hell out of teams that win without the kind of resources the big franchises have. Frankly, MLB's antitrust exemption should be rebuilt so that there's tons more revenue sharing and a meaningful salary floor to ensure the money gets spent on making teams better. It's a pipe dream!

I absolutely think the present day Nats are bad for the sport! They competed because Ted wanted to win, now they don't compete because Mark wants to build real estate near Nats Park and won't spend money on his hobby.

Sure but my team is owned by Mark Lerner, very nearly a literal Ebeneezer Scrooge, and whose money did, in the not so distant past, buy an incredible stream of wins. Think how good Atlanta could be if Liberty Mediaβ„’ wasn't afraid of free agents?

I'm bitter as hell that my Nats, owned by real estate ghouls with more money than God, just absolutely gave up on free agency because the farm got thin

The Dodgers are proof that billionaires who want their team to win baseball games can a) spend tons of money every year and b) let people who know what they're doing make decisions, leading to c) winning lots of games, even championships. Every owner could try this model if they stopped crying poor!

enjoyed today's bandwagon, and I agree with Hannah's take. My own adjacent one is that the lede mentioned is part of the internet-tinged impulse where it's not enough to have a great performance and appreciate it, but someone else also has to feel bad about it in the process

No level of competitive parity, no level of average payroll, no amount of team revenue would inspire the owners to come off of a "we must reduce labor costs" position. To think that is to ignore 60+ years of baseball labor history. Anyone who says otherwise is either dumb or is carrying water.

Auspicious start for the new CBS News, laundering unattributed cop shit-talking through the incoming editor-in-chief’s blog and failing to correct a misspelling of the story subject’s name in the web headline for three days.

Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink A handful of journalists rebel against a hedge fund that is gutting newspapers nationwide.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

So I think it's almost certainly true that most of not all visionaries and prophets have been excommunicated in the last 40 years at least. Hugh Nibley was, to my mind, a prophet, but he wasn't a charismatic leader. More of a tolerated eccentric

03.10.2025 02:47 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Charismatic leaders are inherently threatening to order, stability, consensus, and frankly, safety.

Last night I saw Julius X, a play that more or less transposes Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam onto Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and the fundamental danger of a great leader was my biggest takeaway

"Clemente" Docu Omits His Union Leadership & Relationship with Martin Luther King Jr. The film, which heavily features his son Roberto Clemente Jr., who endorsed Trump in 2024, omits both Clemente’s union leadership and his relationship to Martin Luther King Jr.

America loves nothing more than a dead black or brown hero, because once they die America can get down to the business of obscuring the reality of their heroism. paydayreport.com/clemente-doc...
