Dr Venn would have been familiar with this - he was a Cambridge academic & his son, also a Dr Venn, was one of the old University councillors on Cambridge City Council before the abolition of the posts in the 1960s.

When it comes to changing mobility behaviour, it’s impossible to overstate the importance of sufficient, sheltered, and secure bike parking facilities. They are a critical component of any cohesive cycling network, and without them, infrastructure investments will never fulfill their true potential.

The entire biography of every feminist can be told in two moments: when we first watched the shower scene & thought it was hilarious, & when we saw it again & understood it as assault. We owe Houlihan a debt for that clarity.

Leftwing activists less likely to work with political rivals than other UK groups, study finds Exclusive: Lack of understanding by β€˜progressive activists’ of other voting blocs has led to rise of far right, authors argue

As someone who used to be a trustee of a charity and got really frustrated with people more focused on moral purity than actually getting stuff done, this rings true.

Interesting the mismatch between what others think and what they think they think.

I had thought that a Supreme Court ruling regarding women's political & legal rights might have meant a C4 piece about the history of women's rights & the women's liberation movement.
But no.
C4 centred males with trans identities.
Quick feminist analysis: males are more important than females.

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

β€˜It’s a huge problem’: what’s gone wrong at the ONS and why does it matter? The UK’s number-crunching body is still playing catchup over job figures after the pandemic, with validity of survey data being questioned

What is the future of survey data? Key government employment stats are based on a 17% response rate (Labour Force Survey). Is that enough? Is it time for the UK to commit to an overhaul of admin data collection? Would voters agree to it? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Blue plaque in Southwark, Mary Wollstonecraft.

Mary Wollstonecraft, author β€œVindication of the Rights of Women”. Recently read her β€œVindication of the Rights of Men” - scathing response to Burke’s β€œReflections on the Revolution in France”, criticising his gendered language as well as hereditary principle. Spotted in Dolben St near Tate Modern.

Yep. Biden, wanting to Uphold the Norms, agreed to keep on a Trump-appointed prosecutor who was probing his son. Created a special counsel to probe his own post-VP document retention. Kept on Durham so he could finish a Trump-ordered probe of 2016.

What did he get? Nothing. So here he goes.

Root and branch! It's not something that can be fixed one arcane procedure at a time.

Which is why the vote should really be "A vote to test whether the House is quorate and has at least 40 MPs present." But the system is so sprawling and arcane that odd procedural moves are sometimes the only thing between the executive and absolute power.

Pet mutilations like ear cropping are still widespread despite such cruel procedures being illegal. Why? Import of animals that have already had these procedures is still legal. To end the abuse we must shut down the import loophole. I'm introducing legislation to do just that. #PuppySmugglingBill

I can never decide whether I love or hate this stuff. It makes sense to have a test that the House is quorate. It's fascinating that the test is always on the motion "that the House do sit in private". I love the 'insider' feeling of understanding. But it's not transparent.
