2/2 But if you’re a Black woman, you don’t get a neat 50/50 split. You get something far heavier because bias isn’t stacked, it’s multiplied.
That’s ‘misogynoir’, and it’s what happens when a woman faces both, simultaneously, and amplified.

1/2 We like to treat bias like it’s a single-issue experience, but that’s never how it works.
If you’re Black, you experience racism. And if you’re a woman, you experience misogyny.
2/2 It’s the difference between alignment and self-protection.
If you want to dismantle groupthink, telling people to ‘speak up’ isn’t going to work. You have to change the consequences of doing so.
1/2 People talk about groupthink as though it’s everyone thinking the same way.
But in most organisations, people don’t all think alike because they believe the same thing. They act alike because they’ve seen what happens when you don’t.

Hiring only those who feel familiar will get you momentum today and maybe even tomorrow, but it will rob you of the breakthroughs later on.
1/3 “Will they hit the ground running?”
That’s the question many leaders ask during the hiring process. But it’s the wrong question.
Because what they’re really asking is “Are they already like us?”, “Will they slot in without friction?” and “Will we be comfortable?”
‘Trial by fire’ isn’t a leadership strategy.
Your people shouldn’t have to decode your expectations or read your mind. Real leadership is making the destination clear and supporting people on the journey there.
Support is not a weakness; it’s what makes growth possible. Be better than Tommy.

You don’t get to throw your weight around and expect others to carry it.
1/3 “With great power comes great responsibility.”
It’s been said so often we forget it’s meant to be a warning.
Leadership is power. You may not feel it in the day-to-day, but your words, moods and decisions ripple through people’s lives.

7 years later and I still whisper, “We’re disabled, Daniel, not werewolves” to myself like a sacred mantra whenever I see a non-disabled person discover ableism like it’s the latest hipster indie band.

Your support and encouragement means a great deal.
3/4 That’s the core of this book:
Great leadership isn’t magic. Not even close.
Thank you to everyone who’s pre-ordered - for yourselves, your teams or someone who could benefit.
2/4 Too often, we assume brilliant leaders have something special the rest of us don’t.
But that’s rarely true.
Extraordinary outcomes are usually built on ordinary things that are well-practised, well-repeated and intentionally stacked.
1/4 The response to yesterday’s book announcement has been overwhelming - thank you.
It’s Not Magic has already hit No.1 in Amazon’s Hot New Releases for Business Careers - a brilliant start and I’m so grateful for the early support.
I had to look that up!!
