Agree. It’s horrific in its own right, and it epitomizes this administration — ripping down our institutions and building a guilded homage to himself while snap funds dry up and our neighbors are kidnapped by masked men.

I think this was true post inauguration, too. The media was proclaiming people were apathetic, but everyone on the local level was working on mutual aid, strengthening community, and also (for those of us who had canvassed tirelessly) taking a breath and waiting for the next mobilization.

Yesterday in my community, a dad was picked up by multiple masked ice agents just after dropping his child off at school. This creates a deep sense of fear and insecurity in a space that should feel safe. Thankfully, he was later released, but that further demonstrates the intention is to terrorize

One thing to understand about America is that our cities have a *million* people of all genders & races who have the energy of the tank man in Tiananmen Square, because they came from communities all over the world that know oppression, that know how to fight authoritarianism, that know solidarity.

I don’t see you fighting back at all. In this moment fighting back means being loud and taking risks. The CDC employees speaking up and resigning, the citizens of occupied cities protesting, and these words from the Chicago mayor are all what leadership looks like:

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

I know Democrats are overwhelmed (or rudderless, if you are less charitable) by the sheer volume of Trump authoritarian moves, but I’d like to see them unified behind specific goals like “RFK Jr is a threat to public health and needs to go.”

Let me put that another way.

This is me too. I’ve always been such a loyal foot soldier. Canvassed my tail off for Harris and Slotkin in Michigan. Furious with Dems for all the reasons you list. They are spineless, beholden to moneyed interests, and aren’t upholding the core values I believe in.
