16.09.2025 03:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also if you are having trouble sleeping I find stretching or doing some light exercise at the end of your day really helps.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk π
It takes AGES for your circadian rhythm to shift and it is strongly linked to your digestion, which means that your body has absolutely no idea what's happening when you start eating at all sorts of weird hours, I find ditching heavy meals in favour of a lot more light meals and snacking helps
16.09.2025 03:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Good blackout curtains are a must, light is the enemy as it will immediately wake your brain up and fry your ability to sleep, keep a pair of sunglasses by your bedside for if you wake up halfway through the day and need to pee or something, keeps you from fully just shooting awake from the sun.
16.09.2025 03:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hydration!!!! Shift work is so rough on all of your metabolic processes and staying hydrated keeps everything nicely lubricated in your think meat. It may sound like obvious advice but I find it makes such a difference.
16.09.2025 03:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Vitamin D! Oh for the love of the gods above Vitamin D, most Canadians are deficient as it is but with shift work it's so much worse, it's so important for mood regulation. (I force vitamin D on my crew incessantly)
16.09.2025 03:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I have worked nights for 6 months of the year for the last 13 years here are some of my tips:
Trying to keep your sleep at the same time regardless of what's going on (or at least only shifting a bit on the weekends instead of doing a full flip to normal social hours)

FILLING BOLOGNESE, HUH?
Inside of me are two wolves:
One wants to wear a denim vest out tonight so I can inconspicuously store more drinks for the road
The other wants to wear a denim vest out tonight so I have somewhere to store my enormous Sanderson tome so I can read on the train after carousing
Both wolves are dorks
My grandma had to downsize to move, so she gave me her ENORMOUS Soundsystem with:
Turntable
Dual cassette deck
6 CD changer
5 speakers
And after a LOT of trial and error it is finally working (I was a dipshit and had the front speakers wired into the rear ports by accident)
Wholesome dogwalk interaction:
Laika (who absolutely insists on saying hi to and being everyone's best friend) goes up to a mother and her preschool aged daughter (after I ask if it's okay if she says hi)
Child: "What's on his arm mommy?"
Mom: "Tattoos, like Maui."
Child: "π― Wooow cool!!"
Gosh, nothing humbles you quite like troubleshooting old audio equipment

Pros of reading on the train to work:
I get an hour and a half of uninterrupted reading time every day
Cons of reading on the train to work:
I am only 40 pages from finishing Oathbringer, so much is happening, I HAVE TO WAIT 8 HOURS UNTIL I CAN FINISH IT, IM GOING TO EXPLODE EJRHJESJBEWJJSBDHFH
