Recovering Victorianist and tech writer in Portland, OR; here for your cat photos. She/her.
I LOVE THEM THANK YOU!
20.02.2026 15:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My father always said he'd give me a suitcase and a ladder, although I doubt he would have stuck to it. In the event I was old enough for both my weddings to pay for them myself. It would've felt weird to plan an event that needed outside funding in my late 30s. Let alone the second wedding!
20.02.2026 15:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think it's more like 36K, but Bridus Georg, who lives in a Faberge egg and spends 1.5 million a year getting married, is an outlier adn should not have been counted. Median cost is maybe a third of that. Still arguably too much. Especially on a dress worn one time.
20.02.2026 15:11 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"Wet Sox" has been floated for a Portland team. (Our minor league is the Pickles though.)
20.02.2026 01:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why do you hate family values?.
20.02.2026 01:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Happy birthday! If you're not overwhelmed, octopus reaching out of the ocean to pet kittens?
20.02.2026 00:48 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In Oregon!!!!! This is wild.
16.02.2026 15:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hoping reality might hit soon due to a)kids in especial danger, b)visible signs on the body. Not "just a cold," not "unhealthy people who were dying anyway."
In 2009 the swine flu took out unusual numbers of young children and there was a panic run on flu vaccines by skeptical parents.
I live in Portland OR and the county vaccination rate is low. Agree some is Christians, but it's common for lefty UMC moms to choose modified vax schedule. Capitalism driving the role of "responsible" moms toward the idea of customized, optimized childhood not standard recommendations.
15.02.2026 18:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What is American food even? Hot dogs are German sausages: immigrants! Pizza and spaghetti foreign food in the 1960s: immigrants. The most popular takeout till recently other than pizza: Chinese. Now probably burritos. Ready to give all that up for Eng/Scots cuisine? You can have apple pie I guess.
15.02.2026 18:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.
15.02.2026 02:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds like the transition between the age where they call the cops on your mother (for neglect) and the age where they call the cops on you (for loitering with intent) has gotten pretty short.
14.02.2026 01:53 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We celebrate farther and farther from the actual date to avoid the crowds catching on to this maneuver. Too bad it doesn't work as well for Jewish Christmas Chinese food.
13.02.2026 17:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'll never stop rolling my eyes about how right-wingers, extravagantly funded over the table by foundations and under the table by buckets of dark money, get all VAST CONSPIRACY at the idea that a private individual might not have paid for a plastic whistle out of their lunch money.
13.02.2026 15:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh God I haaaaaaate this.
I enjoy doing fussy cooking once in a while, but if I want to make, I don't know, individual souffles or something, good luck getting numbers. I like cheese plates too, but c'mon.

I'm so sorry.
12.02.2026 17:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also don't we have enough already?
12.02.2026 15:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I imagine it would be harder, but not impossible, to cook the books on job/income outcome metrics.
12.02.2026 15:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The other unfortunate side effect of metrics is that people game them. I was told 30 years ago as a comp instructor that if I were a good teacher, my students would mostly get As. Later, working in tech, I saw people filing lots of bugs (metric) in order to fix them (also a metric).
12.02.2026 15:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We have a heat pump and a gas stove. I didn't know that was an issue.
I hate induction, but also I've been dithering for a decade about whether and how to overhaul the whole kitchen, so no point in replacing appliances in the meantime.
Oh! I guess that's what the shards are in front. That's some odd marketing.
11.02.2026 19:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm glad it worked so well! Thank you.
I have curly hair now I'm graying after a lifetime of fine straight hair and I have no idea what I'm doing. Plus totally refuse to spend time styling. The others are OK but I'll give this one a shot being as how it's not $50.
Love! How did you decide which one to buy? I have the mousse version and the Curl Constructor gel.
11.02.2026 16:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What is the eggplant thing if it's not just a shrink-wrapped eggplant? I'm so confused.
11.02.2026 15:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Henry James' The Ambassadors. Reuben sandwiches, also any kind of mayo-based burger toppings. Bluegrass. Believe it or not, New York City. (Found it terrifyingly big as a child, didn't go back for many years, fell in love with it )
08.02.2026 23:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nothing more soul-killing than being ordered to ignore all the expertise and experience you worked hard for, and do stupid stuff because your boss (who doesn't understand it) says so.
"Company mission is move fast and break things like a startup. Yes we work in a china shop. No more questions."
In the early 80s I had something of a "cool girls roll with the misogyny as long as there's one halfway intelligent girl in the book" attitude, which to be fair there often wasn't. SF sure wasn't an exception.
06.02.2026 20:11 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's kind of beautiful as well as resonant! It looks a bit like one of those medieval caps some people wear with academic regalia, which suggests another layer of critique.
06.02.2026 17:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My dad, sorry to say. He's otherwise quite bearable but he got his opinions about this in 1958.
06.02.2026 17:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So many of the flavors have sugar! It's wrong. I've backed off to 90% plain salted, 10% salt and vinegar.
