The UK population is ageing, with some ageing better than others. This has implications for health and social care, housing, pensions and education policies.
Centre for Care Director, Kate Hamblin, has contributed to a new House of Commons Library briefing entitled 'The implications of population ageing for social policy'.

Morning Star headline: Sultana warns that the next election will be a fight between βsocialism and barbarism'
With a photo of Zarah Sultana speaking after a march organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, from Russell Square to Whitehall in central London, June 21, 2025
ZARAH SULTANA has warned that
Labour aping right-wing slogans will only see what has happened in the US, Brazil and India happen in Britain.
The Independent MP told the "confronting the rise of the far-right" panel at
Glastonbury festival's Left Field stage on Saturday warned that the next election will be a fight between "socialism and barbarism."
"We have to ensure that we defeat Nigel Farage or any kind of fascist incarnation we have at the time," she said
Ms Sultana also praised Jeremy Corbyn as
"the best prime minister we never had" as she hit out at Sir Keir Starmer for failing to apologise for his "island of strangers" comments.
"That made people unsafe... so shame on the prime minister," she said.
"We have seen immigration policies that have not been framed around dignity.
"It's a politics that punches down and not up, a politics that scapegoats the most marginalised people."
She added: "The answer to the politics of hate is the politics of solidarity.
"We have to fight in every possible way β electorally, in our communities, through our trade unions."
The answer to the politics of hate is the politics of solidarity.

Just 1 in 5 people (19%) know that the cost of professional home care services could cost more than Β£1,000 per week. Most thought the cost was lower, with almost half (47%) thinking costs were between Β£200 and Β£600 a week on average. This is from a JRF poll carried out by FocalData in 2024.
People are unaware of high care costs, the cost of caring yourself, or long waiting lists.
