So @schumer.senate.gov really thinks we don’t understand that he orchestrated this by getting senators not up for re-election to vote yes?

10.11.2025 03:57 β€” πŸ‘ 2257    πŸ” 837    πŸ’¬ 176    πŸ“Œ 88

He fucking orchestrated this, by getting 8 politicians not up for reelection to vote for this and acting like he and none of the other people facing elections have anything to do with it.

They are all fucking complicit.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.

From the DNC Chair to Chuck Schumer to Hakeem Jeffries to Democratic governors, the vast majority of Dem politicians strongly oppose this deal. This is a small group of cowards who betrayed their party and tens of millions of Americans who are about to lose their health care.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

The arrogance of a Senator who is not even running again to take the lead in undermining the Caucus and the voters.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.

I've looked at all the details of this deal to end the shutdown reached by a small group of Senate Democrats. I've talked to a number of friends on the Hill to see if there's anything I'm missing. Sadly, I am not.

This is a shit deal. It's a betrayal. It's cowardice.

What happens to the millions who lose their healthcare? We just "move on" because it will be too painful for people not to travel for the holidays?

No. People will die without the ACA extension. End stop. It is absolutely worth "digging in" if it means fighting for health care for millions.

If they give up on those ACA subsidies, they aren't ever going to get them back

Americans can’t afford this deal.

Democrats can fight AND win β€” just like we did in our budget battle in Michigan.

A promise isn’t a deal. Don’t settle.

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.

The president of the United States is on his way to an NFL game after a weekend spent partying at his country club and fighting to starve poor Americans.

And Senate Democrats want to surrender to him?!

Fuck that and fuck them.

Democrats just swept the off-year elections -- and not just in blue states -- a resounding rejection of Republicans' authoritarian bullshit. It is an insult to Democratic voters, marketplace enrollees, and everyone who turned out on Tuesday for Schumer and Jeffries to cave.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

"We need solid guarantees that they won't simply renege"

What kind of guarantee can you possibly get from a regime that has been lying and breaking the law from the word go.

Hold the damn line.

Sometimes people comment that they’ve never called a member of Congress and they are nervous about it.

I completely understand. My suggestion is to write down your thoughts first.

Then call and give them your name and zipcode, and immediately begin reading your statement all the way through.

The conservative welfare state - Salon.com Conservatives want to re-create the welfare state -- not abolish it

It's important to note here that today's Republican party is not conservative, it's reactionary.

Actual conservatives like economic support systems because they protect economic stability and promote entrepreneurship. In fact, the modern welfare state was created by conservatives.

UPDATE: Donald Trump is so hellbent on denying people SNAP that he went all the way to the Supreme Court to block benefits.

Now Trump is trying to bully states into TAKING BACK payments they already made to families.

It’s chaos for the sake of cruelty.

REMINDER: President Biden NEVER cut SNAP payments, never even had a government shutdown.

In fact, he cut child poverty in half.
He cut child hunger, too.

I miss having a REAL President.
