The same cage as previously is seen from across the room. There's a desk on one side and a wall furnace on the other, and a dining table in front. The shelf on top holds school and art supplies.
Danny might be inside for a while bc he rocks. Made 2 ferret Nation cages into 1 and popped it behind the table. I kinda love it.

Had to turn Merry's nest box on its side bc the babies kept escaping and not being able to get in. She also squished one. And has since peed on them. She's feeding them well, but this whole hutch thing is clearly not her cup of tea.

26.04.2025 21:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If all else fails, do a google search for "farm", "beef farm", "dairy farm" etc and see who nearby seems worth trying. I found some within an hr of Philadelphia that way.
And I had a list of apps here but blue sky ate it, so I'll BBS with that
That can be hard. It took me a while to find the best local farms/resources when we moved too. There's a few apps that track that kind of thing, although all the name escape me rn. Up here in northern NY there's no one on the apps, but in a city I bet they'd be useful. I'll try to look for them.
26.04.2025 11:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Is a bidet an option? I'm trying to convince hubby we need one. Also, there's quite a few "green" online TP options that might fit your needs. I still haven't dived down that rabbit hole. π
26.04.2025 11:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If you eat meat, and have the space, and ability, buying a 1/4 (or more) of a cow or pig is a great deal. Especially, look for a DAIRY farm, as they're usually cheaper but the beef is still excellent.
Are there particular foods you're struggling with sourcing? For me the hardest is all the baking.
A broken castor doe rabbit inspects a nestbox recently set up by human hands. It has hay, and you can see a pile of fur where the babies are laying snuggled up.
So.. it turns out Ashildr's kits were being fed by both mommas. And on Monday, Merry walled up her own kits and never went back. I ended up moving her and her remaining kits to a hutch to make sure she feeds them.
She is doing so now. Motherhood must be confusing. Poor girl.

Y'all.. we need scheduled posts. It's been a week! Danny had a scare, I think a bladder issue, and stopped eating for a couple days. Very lucky he pulled thru. But he came in for nursing, and now has to be a house bunny till it warms up. I don't think he minds.

And tractors definitely help reduce cocci risk. And I'm also super pro-tractor. It's just a factor to keep in mind, that sometimes it takes a couple generations of ground (and hay, grass) exposure to get that toughness back. π
Show stock and a lot of caged stock, even when raised to be hardy, often is more susceptible to things like coccidiosis that they can get from ground contact.
"Raising pastured rabbits for meat" by Nicki carangelo is really good. She talks about breeding for hardiness too.
