‘The Atlantic’ published this landmark document of the civil-rights movement in the August 1963 issue
While in solitary confinement in April 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a nearly 7,000-word letter, smuggled out with the help of his lawyer. The Atlantic published it in its August 1963 issue, with the headline “The Negro Is Your Brother.” Read it here:
