Visited Kapiti Island nature reserve for first time in over a decade today. Absolute chorus of native birds thronging in the blooming rata. Kākā, hihi, korimako, tĩeke, kākāriki, koekoeā. Really satisfying to realise how many I can identify by sound after years of listening intently in the bush

Imagine ‘skinks, geckos and frogs scurrying freely’ …Enjoyed the convo tonight marking 25 years of @zealandia.bsky.social ‘s predator proof fence. Clever gambit to spin what’s usually a chore into a drawcard for its 15,000 members. Packing out auditorium for an AGM? Well done

Brown Sugar has a beautiful garden out back with flowers and a play area. Agree that Lava Glass is worth a stop to watch live glass blowing. And Hamilton Gardens is worth a detour. Find the fairy house among the hedges by the playground.
