Our bathroom laws only apply to government owned spaces, not ALL bathrooms. They are not enforced either tbh & citizens otherwise can not legally hold you in those spaces. It's best to still use a buddy system though, if that's possible.

The fight against anti-trans ID policies and the power of allyship - Watermark Out News The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has mandated that the gender marker on your driver’s license return to your gender assigned at birth for trans Floridians.

The Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recently issued letters to trans Floridians mandating that the gender marker on their driver's license match their sex assigned at birth. We spoke with advocates and organizations like @southernlegal.bsky.social about how to make a difference.

Not really. They only apply to government owned spaces, not the general public. They're also really not enforced. The recent story blowing up is about someone who intentionally called attention to breaking the law & reported on herself. The law has existed 2 years otherwise w/o much happening w/ it.

You can visit just fine, esp the Orlando area. If you or anyone else has questions about this, you can ask us. There will always be a huge trans community here.

Thank you for understanding. We want her to have support & be safe, but she needs to remember to include the community here in her comments now. So far she's remained focused on herself & that's why people forget this was an intentional act. She just didn't fully understand what she was doing.

It would be more helpful if people remembered there's already trans prisoners here suffering what everyone is hyperbolically worrying will *maybe* happen to her. This has done nothing to support them. This protest has accomplished nothing for the community here & is focused on the wrong things.

We do not wish any harm to come to her & it was still a major thing to do, but she has stated herself she didn't think she'd actually be arrested. We could have told her that. She would potentially go to jail for this too, not prison. Big difference.

Creating the narrative that she's a helpless martyr to Florida laws does nothing to support the trans community here. As an outsider, she's already hurt us more by acting alone & without a detailed plan, bc now she regrets doing it but all attention is still on her, not those of us who live here.

She wrote to lawmakers in advance with her exact plans to break the law & included a photo of herself with it too. She also walked into the bathroom with a journalist present. This was intentional but not well thought out or involving the Florida trans community at all.

Thank you for being one of the only people here who has even mentioned any of this. We appreciate the risk she took but it's offensive she didn't ask us about our reality here before doing this - & not planning it effectively either. This really accomplished nothing, least of all for the community.
