See, I short-circuited the cycle. Bought a nice, large ATX case over a decade ago and have used it exclusively ever since.

As a kid who wasn't allowed to have consoles growing up, Jazz Jackrabbit was the shit. That and Earthworm Jim.

If nothing else, ignore the national stage and focus on your local communities. There are going to be negative consequences (economic, medical, etc) hitting many of our of neighbors soon enough. Small actions still affect lives.

If I'm not mistaken, you are a self-taught developer, right? What is your advice for any new self-taught developer?

self-taught developers have advantages of our own:

- you didn't get into coding _by accident_ - embrace your drive
- use other skills in your coding - e.g. your problem solving or creativity or verbal talent

plus:

- play with code!
- ask 'why' a lot
- try to help others out

Can't emphasize "Use your other skills" enough. I'm also self-taught, coming from an English + Music degree background. Developing the ability to bridge the gap between dev and business sides of the company via clear writing is invaluable. Same goes for any other ability (e.g. artistic talent).

Work is branching out into privacy-first network monitoring software for the consumer market, and Google Ads has been a nightmare. Our website keeps getting arbitrarily flagged as "compromised". Granted, web dev isn't our main focus...but we're talking a static Nuxt site on Netlify. Just wild.
