@woconnor.bsky.social and I have been reminiscing about our student days in Guelph, living in a gross-but-affordable apt down the street from a vegetarian restaurant called The Cornerstone, so I recreated (successfully! w/o recipe! 🙌) our favorite meal from there: antojitos and a tempeh Reuben 🤤

28 May is the Feast of Anuk-Who-Raced-The-Sun, a hummingbird folk hero who flew so fast for five days and nights that the sun never set on her back. Depicted as a hummingbird haloed with the sun, sometimes hovering above a vanquished, bleeding crescent moon.
She is the patron of those with jet-lag.

Aw sorry to hear that. Try not to get too discouraged, I just finished hiring for my team and had like 450 applicants with only my eyeballs as filters, so I'd basically choose a pile of resumes at random to review each day. It's truly a numbers game.

Experiments with scoring techniques: tried for a pretty 🌾 on the left side of the left loaf. @woconnor.bsky.social has (appropriately) named the right one "Bowser loaf" 🐢 Interesting to see the difference in how they rose in the oven!

I had this happen with jalapenos I grew one year, I think sometimes you just get a random murder pepper filled with all the seething hatred of the peppers that came before

Resurrection hangover?

On Wednesday, I rented a carpet cleaner and cleaned my office floor; yesterday I considered staying in my pyjamas all day. Today I washed the floor, scrubbed all the baseboards and made egg buns 🤷‍♀️

I've been on 'staycation' this week, and it's been an odd mix of absolute sloth mode interspersed with inexplicable bursts of wild productivity

A single egg bun, about the size of a burger bun, covered in melted cheese and sprinkled with chili flakes.

I made them with pretzel dough (though not dipped in lye solution so they don't have the distinctive pretzel colour or flavour) and brushed them with egg wash before topping with a generous slice of gouda and a sprinkle of red chilli flakes.

I ran out of whole wheat flour a bit short of what I needed for my bake this week, so I topped up with rye flour (only about 120g) and it's the most flavourful bread I've made yet 🤓 Also a lady scurried after me in the grocery store to say she likes my pink hair 🩷 Solid day all around, really
