Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."

You can add this to the list of problems with using AI for history questions. I asked most of the major providers the same question. Perplexity ended up using a source from Reddit, from a subreddit dedicated to a HoIIV mod, from a user asking a question about that mod's alternative history.

I'm looking for expert interviewees to talk about Gordon Flowerdew, who earned the Victoria Cross in what many have called the "last Canadian cavalry charge," the Battle of Moreuil Wood on March 30, 1918.

Ai and plastics have so much in common
- yes, they can be useful in some very specific applications, but they're actually subpar in many cases (breaks/spills BS)
- they are huge sources of pollution
- they are marketed to us as "inevitable"
- once introduced, they're impossible to get rid of

Some people felt they did...or convinced themselves they did, at any rate. The point is perhaps a little more relevant in the context of Cold War anti-colonialism, but def not in 1939 or Eastern Europe!

Trump's statement that Ukraine can win back all it's territory is mostly a message to Putin that Russia should more seriously engage in peace negotiations. It does not mean new US support for Ukraine, but it does signal that Trump will not obstruct Europe's efforts. 1/4

question for Pacific War historians: I'm looking for reliable figures on the number of Allied airmen captured in Japan or the Pacific theater more broadly.

I've seen 568 mentioned in passing a few places, but can't find a credible source. Any ideas on where I can find one?

OK, there are just too many good caricatures of FDR & co. in this magazine not to make this a running thread.
