09.05.2025 14:14 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0We โค๏ธ global soil studies!! So stoked to be getting samples from Australia, Africa, maybe Mongolia(?!), in addition to all of the awesome US NutNet sites!

We're looking for folks doing research in this space, particularly in collaboration with NRCS, to present. DM me if that sounds like you or someone you know!

Does anyone have connections to soil scientists in India or experience sampling in India? I'm working on a Nutrient Network study and trying to negotiate the process of shipping soils back from India to the US for processing. Would love to connect with anyone who has done this before! #soil
11.12.2024 19:22 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0For this study I fractionated soils from 6 vegetation cover types at 5 depth increments (0-100 cm). The final paper only includes 2 cover types and 1 depth, but all of the data are stored on #EDI
I hope someone can use this data in future meta analyses!

Analysis of the MAOM fraction with pyrolysis GC/MS showed a decrease in soil organic compound diversity under eCO2 in soils beneath large shrubs. The organic matter in these soils becomes more similar to interspace (un vegetated) soils and may show a degradation in islands of fertility.
05.03.2024 19:25 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0From 13C stable isotope analysis we found that MAOM is an actively cycling pool under eCO2, with newly fixed C incorporated into this "slow" cycling pool. This difference in C cycling between arid and temperate ecosystems may help to explain responses to CO2 disturbance at Mojave FACE.

We isolated POM and MAOM fractions in soils from the Mojave Desert FACE site and found that long term elevated CO2 drives a loss of MAOM-C in soils under large, perennial shrubs.

I just realized that I am the person circling back after the new year... ๐ฌ Can't help that I'm excited to get TSIP kits in the mail for spring soil sampling! We're going to get so much data in 2024 ๐ค
03.01.2024 15:57 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Anyone else get so far in to revising a manuscript that they simply forget how to write a sentence? Every paragraph is a Frankenstein's monster of 10 different scientists' thoughts (Advisor comments, thesis revisions, co-author comments, reviewer comments...)
Any advice on how to regain coherence?
Updating R and R Studio for the first time since defending (absolutely was not going to do that mid-thesis writing). Send good vibes ๐

So excited to see this out in @sssajournal ahead of #CSA2023!

Anyone here attending #CSA2023 next week? I'm excited to be presenting on both the last chapter of my thesis and new work from The Soil Inventory Project! ๐ค ๐ฑ
Soil priming in a desert under elevated CO2 (Monday, 1:35 pm, room 121)
TSIP case studies on carbon monitoring (Monday, 3:20 pm, room 225)
Spent this morning on a spooky trail run with my dog, soaking up a few hours in the woods before the rain moves in. I guess the weather gods really want me to work on my #SSSA presentations this weekend!
