Again, that’s a valid opinion to hold. ‘The <unlikely profession> who catches criminals’ is a trope as old as TV and has been mocked many times (Fast Show, etc). But it’s also valid to have a line, and the Guardian reviewer thought it crossed his.

It’s a mischaracterisation because you say I think they should have noticed he was his twin brother. Who they knew nothing about. I don’t. Never have. They *would* have noticed he was strangely incapable of doing his job and done something about it.

Very well, I wrote my dissertation on Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius. I have emphatically not denied myself speculative fiction. I’m just not that into how that enormous and variable genre has manifested in TV and cinema in the last few decades. And I think it has impacted viewers’ assessments.
