It’s Wayne Hennessy I feel sorry for. If only he’d tried this excuse he’d have been fine.

A mate of mine did a survey of charity shops a few years after that and it was neck and neck between White Ladder and Sing When You’re Winning.

It’s when Australians start saying rancid old toot like β€˜people will feel themselves privileged to have watched us’ that the game will truly have gone.

I see Piers Morgan is leaving News UK. He’ll leave an enormous, gaping hole.

I sympathise. It wasn’t a serious point anyway.

Ironically, that business park was where I worked at the time of both filming and broadcast. Have since left.

At working out crimes and who done’em. Once he is cut an unfeasible amount of slack for not being able to do the other bits.

Of course not. Never claimed otherwise.

But didn’t know what many basic terms of art in police work meant.

Again, that’s a valid opinion to hold. β€˜The <unlikely profession> who catches criminals’ is a trope as old as TV and has been mocked many times (Fast Show, etc). But it’s also valid to have a line, and the Guardian reviewer thought it crossed his.

And the Thargons thing was a self-deprecating joke. Come on.

30.12.2024 20:23 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It’s a mischaracterisation because you say I think they should have noticed he was his twin brother. Who they knew nothing about. I don’t. Never have. They *would* have noticed he was strangely incapable of doing his job and done something about it.

Very well, I wrote my dissertation on TlΓΆn, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius. I have emphatically not denied myself speculative fiction. I’m just not that into how that enormous and variable genre has manifested in TV and cinema in the last few decades. And I think it has impacted viewers’ assessments.

30.12.2024 20:20 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Another mischaracterisation. I’ve had enough.

It’s not unthinking. It’s just different from yours and unpalatable to you. Which I can accept. Social media cuts out the hinterland.
Now, I suggest this is left here before the Thargons from the planet Tharg discover it in the year 3765 πŸ˜†

I’m not sure how you can pronounce with such confidence that I’m some sort of unthinking (a word you’ve used a couple of times) ignoramus who has consumed no fiction of this sort ever.
