You can use whatever fuel you like if you plan to double the number of flights until 2050.
Then aviation alone prevents global climate neutrality.

Unless perhaps somebody develops the “miracle battery” very soon allowing even electric long haul flights.
But even then you need renewable energy.

Often questions are not easy for me to answer because I don’t find them precise enough and these graphs don’t show the exact question text …

But “dinosaurs died out before humans” might allow you to come up with the correct answer anyway ;-)

Well, for 59% at least.

As a rule of thumb when talking about energy or resource use - everything above 0.1% is definitely not trivial.

Think of alcohol concentration in still living human beings.

We can and probably will ramp up data center capacity until the bubble bursts, but we probably will regret it.

I know. But the impression created is that the economic projections are far better after finding this error, while the model as such just looked at temperature and precipitation, excluding so many other factors.

The problem is that the paper was widely discussed omitting the limitations.

Missing impacts and spatial spillovers
Despite assessing several climatic components from which economic impacts have recently been identified3,7,8, this assessment of aggregate climate damages should not be considered comprehensive. Important channels such as impacts from heatwaves31, sea-level rise36, tropical cyclones37 and tipping points38,39, as well as non-market damages such as those to ecosystems40 and human health41, are not considered in these estimates. Sea-level rise is unlikely to be feasibly incorporated into empirical assessments such as this because historical sea-level variability is mostly small. Non-market damages are inherently intractable within our estimates of impacts on aggregate monetary output and estimates of these impacts could arguably be considered as extra to those identified here. Recent empirical work suggests that accounting for these channels would probably raise estimates of these committed damages, with larger damages continuing to arise in the global south31,36,37,38,39,40,41,42.

Moreover, our main empirical analysis does not explicitly evaluate the potential for impacts in local regions to produce effects that ‘spill over’ into other regions. Such effects may further mitigate or amplify the impacts we estimate, for example, if companies relocate production from one affected region to another or if impacts propagate along supply chains. The current literature indicates that trade plays a substantial role in propagating spillover effects43,44,

Are we talking about this paper, which hasn't included some impacts and spillovers by design but clearly declared that in www.nature.com/articles/s41...

It's in the paragraph heading and not in the fine print.🧐

🌍 Will the ICJ’s Climate Advisory Opinion also shape domestic climate litigation cases?

JOE ODELL and FLORIS TAN say yes – and explain how the ICJ’s conclusions could shape the next generation of government framework litigation.

I just find it important to highlight that the left side of your matrix shows “-ists” which cannot contribute to achieving a stabilization of GHG atmospheric concentration. (Art. 2 UNFCCC)

Hence the goal must be to move them to the other side.

While novels might be helpful to create a common “why”, I wonder if somebody has tried in the last 30 years to professionalize the #UNFCCC process.

More project management, less fancy trade fair booths, a get-things-done mindset?

Nice try, but in that case I’d go for Earth Energy Imbalance.

But without kidding, the answer is gravity. 😉

But regarding #oceanacidification it is less important when we hit the most acidic in 14 million years point, but when will we see significant decline in protein supply for 3 billion people currently relying on it in their diets, no?
