21.11.2025 12:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As a wider point, he really could just start being brave now. Make the unpopular decisions.
If it goes badly, you know that you caught all of the flak and allow your predecessor a cleaner slate to work from.
Screw it; announce a full reassessment of council tax.
I think this links back to the need for improved build standards.
Modern flats with well managed / designed shared circulation along with good noise insulation would hugely improve matters.
However until you can persuade people that this is what theyβll get, itβll be an uphill struggle.
There absolutely isnβt the history of it here that youβd find on the continent.
However we need to find ways to persuade people of the benefits. Not just wider societal benefits, but the benefits to the individuals themselves.
Sooner or later we need to test demand for (decent) family apartments.

At least the 2008 crash was about a bet that housing would never decline. The next one will be about betting that six companies who sell each other magic beans would never decline
17.11.2025 20:08 β π 1467 π 281 π¬ 17 π 5Problem is, I suspect a lot of people outside of the US are knee deep in it with their pensions, ISAs etc.
Iβm pretty limited in my understanding of economics, however Iβm struggling with the idea that a crash in these investments wouldnβt have a much wider impact, or am I being negative?
Good luck to Labour persuading their remaining members to pound the street, knock on doors, deliver leaflets.

17.11.2025 19:47 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is what many of us have been saying. Part 3 of the Planning & Infrastructure Bill is based on a myth: that we don't have enough homes because wildlife and green spaces are protected. It will solve nothing, and inflict terrible harm on our remaining ecosystems

Problem this time is, we no longer have enough national assets to flog off to create a boom decade.
14.11.2025 10:18 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is all happening against a backdrop of a crippling housing shortage. The system is utterly broken.

I appreciate that itβs all very muddy, but I do think that Bond dying is a problem.
Time to face up to this.

All while the country is in the midst of a crippling housing shortage.
The architecture industry should be drowning in profitable work.

In front of a Victorian terrace is a small garden containing a yellow table and chairs with sunflowers on the table. On the wall of the (overgrown/rewilded) garden is a small little free library with a patchy green roof. (Patchy because cats and pigeons sit on it!)
#sundaypixbooks my free little library which brings me SO MUCH JOY!
A wonderful neighbour made it for me after me trying and failing via βmenβs shedsβ for about 5 years. Sometimes I hear the lovely conversations of people perusing the library. Itβs wholesome. Itβs joyful. Create or visit one! π
βSince [Paris Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social took] office, Paris has planted over 200K trees with a pledge to add 170K more by 2026. Yes, the same UAE that might own your football club, fly you on your holidays, invests in our national infrastructure. If boycotts work, we should be boycotting now.
