I like to think - hope? - that he believed in things once upon a time.

Excellent point. If you’re going down all guns blazing, that’s a great one to go down for.

As a wider point, he really could just start being brave now. Make the unpopular decisions.

If it goes badly, you know that you caught all of the flak and allow your predecessor a cleaner slate to work from.

Screw it; announce a full reassessment of council tax.

I think this links back to the need for improved build standards.

Modern flats with well managed / designed shared circulation along with good noise insulation would hugely improve matters.

However until you can persuade people that this is what they’ll get, it’ll be an uphill struggle.

There absolutely isn’t the history of it here that you’d find on the continent.

However we need to find ways to persuade people of the benefits. Not just wider societal benefits, but the benefits to the individuals themselves.

Sooner or later we need to test demand for (decent) family apartments.

At least the 2008 crash was about a bet that housing would never decline. The next one will be about betting that six companies who sell each other magic beans would never decline

Problem is, I suspect a lot of people outside of the US are knee deep in it with their pensions, ISAs etc.

I’m pretty limited in my understanding of economics, however I’m struggling with the idea that a crash in these investments wouldn’t have a much wider impact, or am I being negative?

Nature not a blocker to housing growth, inquiry finds Commons committee report challenges β€˜lazy narrative’ used by ministers that scapegoats wildlife and the environment

This is what many of us have been saying. Part 3 of the Planning & Infrastructure Bill is based on a myth: that we don't have enough homes because wildlife and green spaces are protected. It will solve nothing, and inflict terrible harm on our remaining ecosystems

He wasn’t a β€˜new’ Bond though. He was Bond at the beginning of his career. Essentially it was a sort of prequel to other films.

I appreciate that it’s all very muddy, but I do think that Bond dying is a problem.

In front of a Victorian terrace is a small garden containing a yellow table and chairs with sunflowers on the table. On the wall of the (overgrown/rewilded) garden is a small little free library with a patchy green roof. (Patchy because cats and pigeons sit on it!)

#sundaypixbooks my free little library which brings me SO MUCH JOY!

A wonderful neighbour made it for me after me trying and failing via β€˜men’s sheds’ for about 5 years. Sometimes I hear the lovely conversations of people perusing the library. It’s wholesome. It’s joyful. Create or visit one! πŸ“š

When we look at this massacre and many more perpetrated by the RSF, let's be clear who funds, equips & sustains them. It's the UAE. Yes, the same UAE that might own your football club, fly you on your holidays, invests in our national infrastructure. If boycotts work, we should be boycotting now.

No free bus passes for under 22s, says goverment The Commons Transport Committee recommended scrapping bus fares for young people in August.

It is not true β€œEngland cannot effectively subsidise travel costs”. Retired people get free travel. By freezing the fuel duty escalator we are subsidising car drivers, which compounds inequality. See more here: bettertransport.org.uk/media/groups...
