Belonging Outside Belonging games do not get anywhere near the love or attention they deserve.

They never disappoint.

Which would mean, if true, that political debates amongst the rich and powerful within a capitalist system would be reducible to logistical squabbles about which vectors and methods of exploitation should be prioritized, and strategic squabbles about how much that true nature needs to be concealed.

I'm starting to get the impression that capitalism is a violent, dehumanizing system premised on exploiting the bodies of others, and that anyone who prospers within that system does so by not just turning a blind eye to that exploitation, but finding ways to actively participate in and expand it.

Talking to some game design students tomorrow... here's the final slide of my deck:

Absolutely! Share your email in the DM, and I'll follow up with my retailer catalog.

IPR and Deernicorn are out of stock because I'm currently trying to catch up on demand. Up until recently, I was hand-stamping each box and it wasn't quite sustainable, demand-wise.

A recent order of The Quiet Year shipped to Australia using "Small Packet International Air" for $14 CAD in shipping costs.

You should be able to select your preferred shipping method during checkout.

I know! But I still get an average of 1-2 Americans accusing me of site coding errors, deceptive pricing, or outright fraud every week.

26.01.2026 22:28 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Thanks for the feedback!

It's mentioned prominently on the store landing page, as well as having a visual flag indicator and currency symbols visible. But it still occasionally confuses Americans, who aren't as used to thinking about currencies as the rest of the world is.

(This auto-converter will also show prices in pounds, euro, pesos, and other local currencies, but it's only ever tripped up Americans. I think everywhere else in the world, people are used to taking note of currency symbols and flag markers while online shopping.)

26.01.2026 22:20 — 👍 23    🔁 0    💬 3    📌 0

Because I know that it sometimes confuses Americans, I'll mention that while browsing the store, an auto-converter widget displays prices in your local currency, but upon moving to checkout it displays prices in CAD (the actual currency of the store).

$47 USD is equivalent to $65 CAD.

Hi! Buried Without Ceremony is a Canadian company, and the store currency is CAD (Canadian Dollars). While browsing, an auto-converter shows you prices in your local currency, but checkout is completed in the actual CAD.

47 USD = 65 CAD

I distribute through IPR, Deernicorn, and Compose Dream. But I also do direct sales to retailers. I'll send you a DM right now!

we didn't finish denazification. we didn't finish desegregation. we didn't finish reconstruction. every opportunity for transformative change was deliberately sabotaged by american leaders who knew their wealth would not survive a world freed from eugenics, white supremacy, and war profiteering.

Think about artificial/constructed habitats, in terms of the overall wellness of a target species. Like building a terrarium that accidentally causes long-term nutrient deficiency for the creature, because you didn't realize you needed to include a salt lick. Versus a really good one.

Looking for a pair of terms for describing when a habitat is either (1) inadequate, incomplete, dull, or unideal, versus (2) complete, robust, interesting, hospitable, and able to thrive.

Is it incomplete habitat versus complete habitat? Inadequate habitat versus robust habitat?

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Greenland is Inuit Land. US & Europe playing tug of war with Kalaallit Nunaat, it will be Indigenous people who suffer most. Colonization is not a distant history.

Under a colonial system built on white supremacy violence never disappears it only reiterates itself, sometimes dressed up differently.

Absolutely. Some of my maxims that tackle a different part of the problem:

"Actually do the math."

"I don't want to run a dollar store."

Absolutely. Sound decision-making and healthy relationship-building is still possible and essential. Some are doing better than others.

But the fact that even the sound and healthy folks are feeding those decisions through a chaos vector because it's silly not to... sucks.

"At best, crowdfunding allows a tabletop creator to be good at bad business."

Yeah, that's everything I was trying to say in a single sentence.

Fair enough! Thanks for the feedback.

(The criticism you raise is definitely something I thought about before posting, but it sounds like I reached a different conclusion than you did about etiquette and what was appropriate. It's good to have your viewpoint here as an extra data point.)

Again, I am just focusing on one dimension of the story - the one I feel like I have a meaningful and surefooted contribution to make.

Much of the abrupt implosivity of the story seems compounded by a model of crowdfunding that often produces an unmanageable spike in risk, costliness, and scale.

21.01.2026 04:35 — 👍 155    🔁 3    💬 2    📌 0

But as a TTRPG publisher, any time I have chosen to launch a product without that crowdfunding promotional surge, that product has underperformed considerably.

You're leaving tons of money on the table if you don't play the game (and gamble with as much borrowed money as possible).
