This has my head spinning, quite honestly. My first reaction yesterday was relief, for the riders and team staff, and for cycling on a broader scale.

Today all I can think is: where did these sponsors spring from?! In a sport that's always in desperate need of funding, this feels pretty miraculous.

Which then reminded me of a creative non-fiction piece I had published about the very same setting (it was based on reality of course) about 20 years later... which I'm now revisiting... the uncanny echo of memories changing down the years, is messing with my mind.

It's eye-opening actually, feels like someone else wrote it! Very dated to the time period though, but some might say 'authentically retro' 🤣
