This is (one of the many reasons) why I love Pendragon so much. Combat takes far less time compared to most of the games. It is deadly though.

I can understand that people want to get rid of the too crunchy parts of the game, and as far as I know, even the designers hand-wave(d) much of the stuff. The thing is not to make them away but to make the combat run smoother. You could do it as simple as in CoC by using only DEX if you really want

Also the fatigue points... Damn, we forgot to use those, because it was just too much accounting.

Personally pre-calculated SR's works just fine. It is just the thing that you'd need to calculate all kinds of changes for different actions make it cumbersome. When running a game RAW it will make it too much an excel exercise for me.

TBH I have never liked the SR system as it is now. But arbitrary systems like "roll initiative!" are not great either. They make no sense to me and are no fun. Like I would suddenly have a chance to sucker punch a pro boxer in a match. But as far as I know, there are some changes coming.

Yes, my first time was also in Chaosium Con EU, and I absolutely loved it. I am of course biased, but I have no part in designing the system or writing the setting.

Basic Roleplaying: Creatures Review I expected Chaosium to forget about Basic Roleplaying: Universal Game Engine after releasing it under the ORC-license, leaving its future entirely in the communityโ€™s hands. Fortunately, I was wrong. W...

BRP is a great system!

RuneQuest. The best fantasy game.

Call of Cthulhu. You can run this in every setting.

Pendragon. Maybe the best game ever?

Age of Vikings. Great magic, great feeling of the historical setting.

Yes, Iโ€™m a Chaosium fanboy and love BRP, but these games are absolutely great. Try them.

Nor you should. I always recommend anyone wanting to play RQ NOT to go to read BRP forum, because that place only scares the people away.

Well, by listening to your GM'ing I'd be fooled to think you have read the books multiple times. I'd like to be able to wing it the way you do!

05.12.2025 14:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So a RQ GM does not need to learn everything. Only a little will carry the game far.

I'll admit I am not too familiar with Forgotten Realms, but I'd assume there are quite a few books published for it. But I don't see people complaining about it.

It is like how much we actually know about our own world? I admit there are lots of areas I have no knowledge at all. Or how much I really know about my own country? Or do I know of all the religions near me? Even of the ones that are most common in my culture? Not really.

Also, the lore of Glorantha is often said to be something that drives people away. It is true that there is a lot of it, but it is not necessary to learn all of it, or even most of it. I have run the game quite a lot and used very limited amount of lore. And it has worked perfectly.

I am often puzzled why RuneQuest is considered too intimidating game to learn when people are ok with D&D.

If you'd like to see a bunch of my old @chaosium.bsky.social work, I've got it up here (for free) on the patreon - absolutely some of my fave work from that period! Nothing I love like bronze age fantasy of any and all types

It's about 7-10 years for me to buy a new one. I would love to use them longer, but the capitalists design their stuff so that it eventually will become too slow to use.

That Elmore cover sold SOOOOO many games. I idea I have got is that they never really understood the value of their artists and let them go.

But how much time the billionaires actually spend on those boats? I was them, all of my time, but really, it must be just one of the toys they buy, using once for a while.

Our forthcoming Lands of #RuneQuest: Sartar book has a section on Creating Duck Adventurers, with art by Ossi Hiekkala @ossihiekkala.bsky.social. There's also more Duck art coming by Mark Smiley. Ducks, Ducks, and More Ducks.

Want to play a Duck? After appearing as a location and then counters in Greg Stafford's 1975 board war game White Bear and Red Moon ("Ducks, Ducks, and More Ducks"), as #TTRPG creatures Ducks first appeared in @chaosium.bsky.social's first edition of #RuneQuest (1978).

That's what I always think when I see that piece. Fantasy swords are almost always ridiculous, but this one is the top one.

Way better. I was just a kid when my father used to play this song he had taped from radio. Of all the songs on that tape or any other this one fashinated me, even though I couldn't understand what she sang. This song is a time machine for me.

Of course YGWV, but Sartarites are civilized people, not barbarians (though Lunars might have a different opinion).

Weird. In one of his books he spend pages and pages to describe gay sex in detail, so I wouldn't have expected him to turn out as a transphobe, but what do I know...

I absolutely love Chinatown, so I'll give it a pass as it was done before he did those things he did. But everything after that, fuck him, not watching.

Gaiman, he was a disappointment to say the least. He seemed one of the good guys. PoS.
