My BF and I are in Wisconsin for Oktoberfest and went to a little Swiss Reformed UCC parish this morning. A baby was baptized and some confirmation candidates received Bibles from the congregation. The whole service reminded me of my childhood in non-denom services, oddly enough.

It's strange seeing what is essentially a movement of international nationalists or globalist anti-globalists using the same memes to create a narrative altered just enough to suit each region's taste or background. It's a paradox, and not even a fun one.

He didn't seem like a great guy, from what I've heard. And his books didn't exactly help matters. I haven't heard whether seminarians are assigned his books, but I would hope not. The less we read of him, the better.

How often does your parish use Rite I, if at all? Do you prefer traditional language over contemporary? Does your congregation seem open to the use of the traditional language option? I would love to meet more Rite I/traditional language enthusiasts.

True, but it's not as though most people in those religious houses were actively supporting those things. They lived their lives and did what they understood to be their duty to God. Not trying to defend the Roman Church or its atrocities by any means, to be clear.

From what I gather, not being an expert on the French Revolution, part of that revolutionary violence resulted in the destruction of many monasteries and convents, as well as general anti-Christian sentiments which would be unconscionable to me and to many others.

All this we ask through Jesus Christ, Your only Son, our Lord. Amen.

Sometimes people act as though having the wrong politics leaves an indelible mark on one's soul which nothing can pardon or wash out. Where's the grace in that? It presumes that one is good while one's opponent is evil. The truth is nobody is good but God. Pray endlessly for those who oppose you.

For me, it's Pound. Even though I like Eliot more, Pound is one of the most unique poetic voices in English. A shame that his fascist sympathies and the general obscurity of the constant references in The Cantos have obscured his brilliance.

It seems like animated Disney movies are more popular in East Asia than in Western countries, where animation till very recently was seen as "kid stuff". This may be a bit of a simplistic spitballing, but perhaps that's why Zootopia stuck around in East Asia while it didn't in the West.
