What does it mean to see ourselves as animals? Does it change how we treat other life on Earth? How are we alike or different from our fellow animals?
We asked renowned Stanford University professor Robert Sapolsky. 🧪
Next week, some environmental orgs will likely be charged w/ bogus accusations by POTUS. Here’s the deal: we stand together. An attack on one is an attack on all. Those not named aren’t off the hook; they have to lean in to support those falsely accused. #unity

Buy all of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social's books. Perhaps the only thing worse than reading their horrifying and infuriating revelations would be not to read them and deprive oneself of the needful knowledge and stylistic delights of her superlative writing. Highest recommendation!

To mark World Day for #Glaciers, here are some pictures of glaciers I’ve written about. This is Pearse Valley in Antarctica, about a 40-min helo ride from Scott Base. Right of Lake Joyce is a lobe of the Taylor Glacier, and behind them, clawing over the brown ridge is the Catspaw Glacier. 1/n

The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and April by looking at the decadal average line positions.
In the next few days, I will be sharing some of our work that I am most proud of from my time at NOAA/GFDL. But I would also like a little normalcy today on my feed, so here's my go-to sea ice data viz update.
#Arctic sea ice extent still remains the *lowest* on record for the date (JAXA). Not good

"Gulf of America" is just a loyalty test. It's a way of checking who is going to abrogate reality for no reason other than a cowardly refusal to stand up to the bully or an opportunistic willingness to toady up to one. Anyone who will call it that will help you round people up or look the other way.
