They are government bonds.

They really seem to be strengthening the Ruble. Any thoughts on why? My best guess is the pretence that the economy is going well to make them look stronger in any negotiation.

Skeptical of Russia's data, some Western officials judge its economy by looking at Moscow from space Russia says it's withstanding the impact of sanctions. Sweden's finance minister says satellite images show a different story.

I thought you would like this one.

I vote for option 3. I assume you mean depression.

Hiding the data isn't going to stop the average Russian from noticing the price drop.
The authorities will do it, but it is pointless.

China have wants investment funds to stop buying bonds because they are pulling capital from the stock market.
Most of the Yaun being used is trapped in the Chinese system and is looking for somewhere to go. The stock market is crashing so bonds are a safe bet.

The authorities keep pumping money supply into the stock market and institutions keep taking the the money out of the crashing stock market and fleeing to bonds.
The cycle continues and the debt grows.

That is current account that address that. Who knows what liquidity that has.

This tells me they either can't use it (due to sanctions) or they won't (it is there for the last resort).
If they aren't willing or able to use it does it really matter if they have it on paper.

I don't know that. But I do know that they are not using them and instead increased their money supply by 2 trillion rubles.

I predicted this earlier this month.
110 will be the baseline for next year.

I read somewhere that they are sea tankers that were cut in half and shortened to make them possible to be used on rivers.
Then Russia used them for sea faring when they are no longer suitable.
Sinking is a consequence of this.

No one will shout about it as it isn't above the high reached last week and the bank of Russia showed the public they are in control after controlling the spike.
It probably wasn't by design but the spike has provided a psychological shift in what is acceptable.

11.12.2024 08:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You and Evgen have more reach than me so I will message you my prediction and you can use it if you agree.
After the massive spike and subsequent drop of the ruble last week we are seeing it creep up again.
I predict it will end the year just below 110.

The latest data on Russia's NWF so it's time for @tochnyi.info's long-running covering of this specific bad boy.

Still very flat, overing at about $54bn. but there is a lot to be said this month.

There is no guarantee they will ever get a similar opportunity again. Particularly now there reputation is shot.
The US and China have the financial power to buy overseas bases. Russia's only hope is opportunistic events that rarely come.

When you write up the consequences of this don't forget to mention the fact that Russia only had a presence in Syria due to a rare opportunity of being invited by a failing regime desperately needing help.

Increasing liquidity while having an interest rate of 21% and rising inflation.
I am sure they know what they are doing and aren't creating a stagflation nightmare.

Completely missed the news.

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation set the limit of the repo auction for Monday at exactly 1 trillion rubles.

This is the exact amount of OFZ that banks bought on Wednesday, December 4.

Long live quantitative easing ))

Today, the Ru Ministry of Finance announced the placement of a record volume of OFZs β€” 1.024 trillion rubles. The most interesting thing is that the banks that bought this volume do not have excess liquidity. On the contrary, today the liquidity deficit is 233 billion rubles.

In Russia, unemployment began to rise in the summer. This means that Russia has plunged into stagflation!
