I was thinking about it in the context of AI-stolen art and comics, and recalled this great sci-fi story from 2000AD in 1986 where a talented Scottish artist goes to Mega City One to make his fortune, only to have his style copied by an AI.

Enjoying it so far! An interesting whodunnit about a grim topic.

Pausing at the lights during the Drum & Bass mass rideout with DJ Dom Whiting in Cardiff today.

Absolute bedlam!! 3,000 or more cyclists, skateboarders, rollerbladers etc - smoke, confetti, horns, bells, and subwoofers on cargo bikes brought the traffic to an absolute standstill in all directions.

DJ Dom Whiting going past with at least 3,000 cyclists, skateboarders, rollerbladers and more, in a mass rideout through Cardiff today. Total party atmosphere!

It makes me feel younger and whole again.

I’m getting on in years, and I am accruing infirmities that are making it harder to walk about, and am generally lacking the energy of my youth.

Not on the bike though!! The aches and pains drop away, and I whizz about quite happily!

On the plus side, I feel blessed that I’m at least one person who has no clue what the Sweeney controversy even is.

Totally get you re the whole faux outrage thing though. Gotta shift that ad space, right? And who cares which minority gets death threats as a result.

I tell you what, if you read the comments under articles like this on FB, you’d swear the ‘voting public’ both wanted it and are still very happy with how it turned out (despite not being able to cite one improvement to their lives that Brexit has brought).

I think a court of law might disagree! I hope the cyclist gets her justice.

The cyclist’s video shows the cyclist coming to a stop before reaching the dogwalkers.

The man berated her as he approached. Then, as he passed, disappearing off camera, the cyclist was violently thrown into the water.

Is the pedestrian saying the cyclist threw herself into the water?!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Thinking of your friends and family, do you think they might have an understanding of what ‘net zero’ might mean?

Thanks. In your experience, do you think any of your friends or family would have any understanding of what ‘net zero’ meant?

06.08.2025 16:07 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

But how would you explain to a layman what ‘net zero’ actually means?

If someone asked you to explain ‘net zero’, what would you say?

There is a debate in work about the term ‘net zero’ and what it means to UK citizens, if it means anything at all.

Just out of curiosity, what does the term mean to you? How often do you come across it? What connotations might you attach to it?

Is there anything in the Highway Code about not shoving your fellow humans into a canal?

It can’t be that hard, given that the British public were easily sold a bunch of snake oil benefits under Brexit that were never clear or never materialised, despite most economic experts screaming “DON’T DO IT!!”.

…and still better than the ‘terms’ we have right now!!

The awful irony was that my boss was the son of two Italians, who had migrated to Wales before he was born, and set up that very same cafe business.

They had employed people in the area for several decades before I started working there.

They didn’t “take our jobs”, they created them!!

I worked in a cafe in South Wales in my late teens, 80s/early 90s, and heard constant anti-immigrant racism.

When challenged, my boss, his staff, and our customers would all point at The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Express etc - “See? It says here! Bloody illegal immigrants taking our jobs!”

More than a generation! As a paperboy 35 years ago I was reading bullshit headlines about immigration on the front of tabloids and broadsheets. There are folk in the generation above me and two generations below me who believe this shit.

John Oliver: "Gaza is starving, is a sentence that's objectively true, but it's also slightly misleading because it's too passive. Gaza is being starved by Israel."

Deeply disturbing first-hand account from an American who witnessed a slaughter committed by the IDF in Gaza.

I still think my favourite thing that's ever happened to me on the internet is the time a guy said "people change their minds when you show them facts" and I said "actually studies show that's not true" and linked TWO sources and he said "yeah well I still think it works”.

It is supposed to be a public SERVICE, not a business. Or would the town prefer to stink of stale piss?

The more public toilets there are in a town centre, the more footfall there will likely be in retail areas.
