You need to trust yourself enough to know that you're on the right track, and allow yourself to try and fail and try again in order to develop confidence.

There is no compendium of advice that allows you to just follow along, and avoid the discomfort and work of finding the way yourself.

There is an abundance of writing craft advice out there but it all depends on you having clarity on what you want to do, and guess how you figure that out?

Reading and writing more.

No one can give you a map to a place that doesn't exist yet. No one can tell you how to make something original.

The entire mindset some beginner writers adopt when they go looking for advice is flawed.

No one can tell you step-by-step how to distill your worldview, life experiences, influences, and skills into a compelling and original work of fiction that will also sell.

You need to figure that out.

I chose "intended difficulty" which is the hardest. I'm already struggling to manage hunger and exhaustion as I walk around town meeting people and figuring things out. I'm a little bit worried the future is going to unplayably difficult for me, but I think that dread is part of the experience.

This game is fucking amazing, and also the worst. On the first day I got the shit beat out of me twice. I tried to perform surgery to save someone and ended up just removing their liver. There's never enough to eat. A woman was burned alive. There's an impossible structure on the outskirts of town.

The polyhedron is an impossible structure that emerges out of the gray darkness in Pathologic 2.

I've been on the verge of starvation in Pathologic 2 for 3 days, so I looked up some tips online. The tip I got was "you should be stockpiling food for the first few days, it's going to be very scarce in the future."

"Trans is white and bourgeois" is a decades old op. It erases the many BIPOC trans people who pioneered and inspired following generations. It ignores the social and economic precarity 95%+ of us live with. It frames trans people as powerful oppressors when we are institutionally disempowered.

It is calculated to drive a wedge between trans people and other poor and marginalized groups, preventing solidarity. Rich white people already hate us. They need poor people and BIPOC to hate us, too. They need socialists and progressives to hate us. They're trying to isolate us until we're dead.

We're not a "movement" -- we're just people, and overwhelmingly our downward social mobility has taught us to be in solidarity with BIPOC, immigrants, and others who are persecuted.

I've never met an affluent trans person. I know a lot of disinherited, poor white trans people, though.

The rich and privileged white tranny is a propagandistic trope pushed by our enemies.

There is a type of white trans woman whose shut-in paranoia drives her to read art and the world at large through a fearful, paranoid lens, and ultimately this attitude only reproduces the world's atomized hostility and isolation.

Somehow I managed to write a little poem to share at writer's group today amidst all that novel work.

If I hustle I've still got enough time to do some final edits and tweaks to that, and do my Thai homework for the week, too.

wrote 2000 words in the novel this morning, including cleanups and improvements to yesterday's work. I'm at 87,000 words and hoping to close it out at under 95,000 words. Then another full pass for language and continuity.

My novel has a lot to do with shame, guilt, and the family, and I find that these have been themes in my dreams lately, albeit in ways that remain confusing to me.

Muddled mix of dreams last night. Family road trip, like when I was a kid, where I met a girl who obviously liked me outside a church, and they made fun of me for my obliviousness. A man whose skin detached from his face. Hanging out with fellow rejects from a reality show in a mall.

It’s probably that I have split ends and my hair just keeps breaking at a certain length but what if it just stopped growing and this is all the hair I have forever?

Making up new and interesting things to feel anxious about. I’m worried my hair isn’t growing fast enough. I haven’t had a haircut in like 3 years, and it’s not that long.
