Splendid indeed - I don't think Midge and I have seen each other since the launch of her Amy book, 22 years ago! Started the book on the train home, and it's looking good.

My Sheffield relatives called them ginnells, whereas my wife tells me that in Worcestershire they're stickets.

I believe the wartime women were known as Lumberjills, so perhaps Lumberjane? Although Jane wouldn't want to be lumbered with such terminological trivia...

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to a chap about Prest's Phantom book. He said it had inspired him to join the RAF, although just too late to fly Phantoms; he had to make do (not his words!) with the Tornado. As someone else has said, it's on a par with Richard Bach's Stranger to the Ground.

This #fox is the rather annoying blighter who has been digging in the flower pots and beds on our patio. We've tried various "deterrents" to no avail - any suggestions that won't involve horses and red coats?
