Clearly the great fire of London happened because the buildings had harnessed too much energy and so caught aflame.
ALSO - if you missed out on your childhood measles vaccine and haven't had measles, you can get *free* MMR vaccination from your GP! (whether as an older child, teenager or adult).
I got my MMR about 10 years ago!

Day of small satisfactions
Made a diagnostic call and consultant concurred
Pushed back on a specialty waffling with unnecessary tests and getting the procedure the patient needs tomorrow.
And wife off to watching Wuthering Heights tonight so I can enjoy both Small Prophets and the new Quinns quest!

If you can't spend money, tell your favourite local store about your favourite publisher, drop a review on a game, or offer to run a game at a local club.
Every little helps!
Very informative thread.
Shows that the London outbreak isn't as bad as stuff like the states but still a tragedy considering we so recently had near zero cases.
Chart showing recent confirmed measles cases per year in England ranging from 1,414 in 2013 to 2,911 in 2024 and 91 in 2015
π§΅What is going on with Measles in England?
UKHSA has reported 96 confirmed measles cases since 1 Jan 2026, concentrated in London (64% of cases) and the West Midlands (26% of cases).
But what does this all mean? Is 96 a lot? Why is it happening? And what can we do about it? 1/8
Misread the title of the Chinese New year and now all I can think when I see it is 'Five Horses Jeremy? Five? That's insane'
17.02.2026 08:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The fact that some of the schemes being proposed to improve vaccine uptake in poorly vaxed areas are things that were already being done 15-20 years ago shows how much progress was lost.
Once you don't put the resources into promoting public health it's only a matter of time for rates to drop
Agree that the return of measles is a disaster but do think the focus on conspiracy theorists and anti vaxxers does leave one group off the hook.
And that is the conservatives for gutting public health in the UK.
Proud to partner with UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband to sign an MOU deepening climate cooperation between California and the UK.
As communities face extreme weather and rising costs, weβre accelerating innovation and investing in solutions to tackle climate change.
Aggravated offences (new clause βAggravated offencesβ and amendments to clauses 122, 123, 124 and 217) In our manifesto we committed to βprotect LGBT+ and disabled people by making all existing strands of hate crime an aggravated offenceβ and in response to an amendment tabled at Commons Report stage by Rachel Taylor the then Minister for Policing and Crime committed to bring forward an amendment in the Lords to deliver on the manifesto commitment. This new clause does just that. Indeed, it goes further and extends the ambit of the racially and religiously aggravated offences in sections 29 to 32 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 not just to cover hostility related to disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity but also hostility motivated by a personβs sex. This change will ensure that tackling misogyny is part of the governmentβs approach to tackling hate crime. It also ensures it can be embedded within the governmentβs mission to halve violence against women and girls in the next decade
New Govt amendments to the crime and policing bill:
New aggravated offences will now cover hostility based on disability, sexual orientation, transgender identity and sex (part of pledge to tackle misogyny) β extending beyond Labour manifesto commitments on LGBT+ and disability protections
Understand why there's a lot of chat bout the reversal over local elections but this feels like a pretty huge move against US hegemony.
(Also separately hegemony has a real nice mouth feel)
Really great point and also just made me realise that this is part of what made the Mandelorian such an enjoyable show as well.
16.02.2026 17:30 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Pictured is an absolute clown of a candidate standing for Reform in the Gorton and Denton, Matthew Goodwin. The words βreform will give incentives to women who have more children and penalise those who donβt. Change is coming.β
I thought this was an AI mock up because no man would be so monumentally idiotic, insensitive and intrusive as to punish women for not having childrenβ¦but then it is Reform.
Reform are not on yourside.
Reform not care about womenβs safety.
Reform only see us as baby making machines.

16.02.2026 14:16 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Honestly don't know how George Osborne has gotten away with this whitewashing of his legacy.
He's literally the antithesis of Starmer. A very effective and canny politician but someone who absolutely buggered the state and removed any resilience from it leading to the state we are in now.
George Osbourne cut public spending by roughly 3% in real terms.
The Govt has increased it by 4.3% at the last budget alone.
This sort of critiques are entirely vibes based and detached from reality

Many of the Christians were fighting each over disagreements on if the body of Christ should be served well done or rare at communion
The final crusade got distracted and invaded Byzantium, leading to the Ottoman empire
Obviously this is terrible for pushing the Christian nationalist world view.
But also something hilarious looking at the history of Christianity and Western countries for the last 1000 years and pointing to it as a one big happy family.

And of course if enough people in an area are immunised against it, then it wonβt spread and take hold. You and your child would be saving other children and families from this awfulness too
