Our department and UD are a great place to be, with excellent collaborative colleagues and with a lot of fantastic resources available to researchers including outstanding Bioimaging, Sequencing, and Mass spectroscopy core facilities.

This is a transmission electron micrograph of a t-even family E. coli phage. The capsid head is visible as a dark spot in the upper lefthand corner with the tail protruding from it. The tail fibers are also just visible.

My Experimental Microbiology students have all successfully cultured their phage! And thanks to the U Delaware Bioimaging Core we have really nice TEM images. Next step, genome sequencing. πŸ§ͺ#MoBiol

Exactly. It should be a sealed source. It should take monumental mistreatment of the irradiator to make the thing leak.

I prefer the simpler Eppendorf M4 repeaters as they aren’t electronic (they have a battery but it’s only for the screen). Plus you can get calibrated used ones for $350ish. I still have a OG West German 4780 model too but finding tips that still fit is challenging. Never needed calibration though.

Important to note: 1. The job search that he applied to ultimately hired a different white man and 2. He is mad because a separate department from the one he applied to was directly recruiting a senior faculty member from another university who happened to be a black woman. Absolute nonsense.
