... which it doesn't. Not sure what the rules are, do you know?

When I clicked that it said "these are intended to be friends and family" or something so the angel on my shoulder stopped me. I'll DM it to you in a minute if Bluesky lets me DM you.

Instant Pot Beef Stew with Eggplant and Potatoes | America's Test Kitchen For this understated yet company-worthy Persian-inspired stew, we chose boneless short ribs for their fall-apart tender texture, and browned just half of them in our Instant Pot to achieve great savor...

Thank you for informing me that I now possess a culinary superpower!

This was the last thing I made from them and it was delicious! www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/1482...

The way it's being framed in most of the coverage ("do not have to follow") is not even the whole of it. Members of the service have not just the right, but are *legally required*, to refuse illegal orders.

Stating well-settled military law ... violates military law?

I bet if you added a little bit of binding like egg it would be fine, though you might be heading down a meat-loaf road at that point. I'd do it though, with fresh not pickled, they'd add some nice texture

So many people have conspiracies about "the party" but having been on the inside, "the party" is just the center of gravity of its elected officials.

Change the officials, change the party.

Certainly I've encountered much misogyny but it's usually not taking people seriously, etc.; the stuff about breeding and such seems new and possibly native to the Internet?

17.11.2025 22:53 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm trying to figure out whether:

* I know these people in real life but they just think this stuff privately, or

* this is a new species of Very Online young man I don't encounter because I'm too old, native to the Internet with contagious weird misogyny

This is truly astonishing, and I thought I knew a lot about how bad the Internet is for women.

Could be genuine. I'm married to an elected official so have been around a lot of them and personally experiencing something can turn even hardened attitudes on a dime. When it does, the tone is usually like this (humble).

I ran that marathon in 2005!

Running past giant statues of Confederates on horses is ... something. Wonder whether they're still there?

Cold Comfort Farm, if you haven't read it, is pretty hilarious and thoughtful and makes fun of the heavy stuff you're aiming to avoid.

Exactly what I thought, is this an evil *thought*? Doesn't matter. Sharing your thought without wondering how it might affect others is a separate act. Think! Care! (Not sure which part of this is failing for people.)

I'm about that age and I think the sequence went:

1. Jocks get the girls
2. Nerds start getting the girls, they're nicer and gonna be rich
3. Nerds don't realize "nicer" was part of it and stop being nice
4. Nerds stop getting girls
5. Nerds blame girls and woke for not getting girls anymore

Jack Smith, Trump’s Target, Shifts From Defense to Counterattack

Will the alternate reality they live in lead them into a trap?

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.

There are things campaigns do wrong. Consistently!

But you'd do better listening to:

* Contrarians who work on campaigns
* Academics who (crucially) *study* politics as a discipline and who are better at forming hypotheses about politics and critically thinking about them.

SW is out of his depth.

08.11.2025 03:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But more often these contrarians are wrong.

In politics the contrarians can be right! Politics has a hidebound establishment of people who have gotten by for a long time by being good talkers without any evidence to support their beliefs!

But Sam Wang is not one of them.

As a tech guy, I know the Sam Wang type. No expertise in the field, insufficient curiosity about people with that expertise.

Sometimes these folks are right (see, e.g., "Moneyball"). Sometimes there's a hidebound establishment that never questioned its assumptions and is wrong about a lot.

I too was struck by an "emergency application" to deny people food aid. Like, it's one thing to litigate the esoterica of shutdown law. It's another thing to call "we have to feed people" an "emergency" from which a court should provide relief.

If someone as incredibly un-hip as me knows that, certainly someone writing for an *entertainment industry magazine* should get this right.
