I have to believe that Chicago will never do this. I hope I'm right. I know there are people in our state who are in favor of getting rid of immigrants. I know there are people who would like to punish us for being a blue state and a sanctuary city.

ICE is invading nice white neighborhoods, not just to pick up a landscaper or two, but to terrorize the residents until they turn against the immigrants & blame them for the invasions & the tear gas & the rubber bullets. My fear is that we will stop fighting for our neighbors for a moment of peace.

Skipped out on the trilogy. Watching Apartment 7A instead.
Charming performances, stunning costumes & sets. Entertaining but not scary.

Ordered some pizza, opened some bubbles, started the X/Pearl/Maxxxine trilogy. Quite technically proficient, but it's not landing for me.

Sometimes I forget, then I remember. that I used to drive past the Texas Chainsaw Massacre house to get to class my senior year of college. Only speeding ticket I ever got was near there.

People think I'm weird, but one of the things I love about ordering pizza is the giant salad.

There's a Criterion "taste" at HBO which works for now because I don't necessarily watch a lot of movies.

this is hard to do. but it VERY MUCH pays off. I find it hard to get absorbed in most movies & I really can't if I've seen too much of it in a trailer or heard too much in a review or recommendation. And it takes very little to be "too much"

I try VERY hard not to learn anything ANYTHING about movies I actually want to see. Other than genre, actor, director, writer, production co, consensus that it's good.

How do I know I want to see them if I don't know anything about them? "genre, actor. director, writer, production co, consensus"

Weapons. Wow. That's how to do it. Give us real human characters. Show us some scary shit. And don't try to explain it in minute detail. But don't handwave it away. Be sure the story has an actual ending, despite open questions.

It's not their fault courts—like police—are the modern American substitute for social services, community resources, & crisis intervention. But they are. Judges need to act like it & they need to complain about it.

Everyone who is in a courtroom is there because of a CASCADE of SOCIAL failures. Judges needs to learn constantly how to make decisions in that context and they just don't learn that.

Most of them don't know what they don't know. Some don't think they need to.

And that is *not good enough*. Not by a long shot. You are a *judge*—you need to be actively learning, not just changes in the law, but changes in our understanding of people & our world. Unconscious bias, empathy gap in remote proceedings, how mental health issues manifest in behavior. ETC.
