On the other site, an 18-year-old Zohran canvasser described the legendary Wallace Shawn as "the actor who plays Dr. Sturgis on Young Sheldon" which is honestly adorable

Hebrew calligraphy in dark green stretches in lines across the image. Negative space makes room for a simple representation of an inflatable frog costume with a blue bandana. That shape consists of the English translation of the Hebrew, in a lighter green, and in much smaller text.

Famously, the Egyptian tyrant causes Egypt to be overrun with frogs because he refuses to free the Hebrew people, but there are additional details that make this a fun one to ponder. For one, the Hebrew says "the frog came up" - ONE frog - even though the rest of the time it says "frogs." So there are a few explanations rabbis have come up with to explain this. One is that a single frog multiplied to create swarms. A more creative explanation is that there was a singular giant frog who traveled and brought destruction. Jewish social media was sharing videos of the Portland Frog protester with the caption, "One Big Frog! One Big Frog!" Of course the frog protesters did multiply, and many were seen in crowds all over the world on "No Kings" Day. This calligraphic work takes the verses addressing the frog plague and combines them to form a simple rendering of the Portland Frog protester. The frog figure itself is made up of the English translations of the Hebrew around it. At the bottom left my signature is in the shape of a lily pad.

"Tzefardea Tzedek" (Frog of Righteousness)

As soon as the Portland Frog became a meme, Jewish social media blew up with jokes about the 2nd Passover plague - tzefarde'a (frogs) - and the Rabbinical commentary around it. I knew I had to make a calligraphy piece encompassing all of it. (more in alt.)

Ok, but if you want Americans to quickly grasp the rough relationship between Ontario and Canada, saying β€œstate” in the headline and then clarifying in the body is efficient.

Trump's style will forever be "what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn," as @kenwhite.bsky.social described it, a cluttered mess of generic tacky designs covered in gold leaf, simultaneously piggish and cheap.

Our Long National Nightmare by Tom Tomorrow Relive the trauma of the last five years through the cartoons of Herblock Award winner and Pulitzer nominee Tom Tomorrow.

five days and a few hours to go and at this point I'm just gonna be shameless: if you can help signal-boost this thing, I'd be grateful. I've done very well through my own channels, but haven't had much luck breaking out beyond them.

In this Ohio town, it was tradition: Latin mass, eggs and bacon at Bob Evans, and then back to the church to shoot the priest in the face with a pepper ball. But now the woke mob wants to take all that away.

Exactly this, on the Klein/Coates debate:
"I think it is an indictment of intentions of those who seek to draw the boundaries of discourse so that they maintain peace with those waging war, instead of working to establish peace for the first time on behalf those against whom war is being waged."

I agree it’s good to convert voters. The thing that DC Dems can’t seem to get into their thick skulls is that kumbaya listening sessions convert no one. What converts people is creating a social penalty for stupid beliefs and ideas

In the next paragraph the reviewer calls it a β€œfar more faithful interpretation of the novel than most of its predecessors.” I got the impression that his main complaint was with Oscar Isaac’s acting.

This is unfair. The reviewer doesn’t like the movie, but he literally observes in the next paragraph that it’s a β€œfar more faithful interpretation of the novel than most of its predecessors.” The main complaint seems to be about Oscar Isaac’s acting.

We need a new theory of democracy β€” because this version has failed - Salon.com It's time to look in the mirror, America: We chose catastrophe β€” there's no one else to blame

Very thorough, very sobering essay by the always astute Mike Lofgren. (His 'The Party Is Over,' in 2012, stands as one of the prescient works of our times. A former GOP staffer who saw where his party was headed.)

the reason this discourse will never end is because it is completely untethered from any kind of evidentiary standard. as long as there is a 19-year-old barista somewhere saying β€œcultural appropriation,” guys like nichols will complain that β€œdemocrats” use alienating language.
