If I was still teaching & my (teenage) students asked me, my response would be:
“Well, he was murdered, which is unacceptable. But he was also a grifting asshole sophist, so celebrating his life is also unacceptable.”
The Administration at my school didn’t like me.

Cool story. What are you boycotting next that has no actual effect on Americans?

I’ll continue taking part in this conversation after you admit that you are wrong about them not having a legal remedy.

Or, you know, they could just negotiate with the Dems. But they won’t do either thing, because frankly they don’t care all that much if the government is shut down.

Which is all to say:
They DO have a legal remedy to get this past the Dems. The fact that they’re choosing not to because of future consequences they might not like doesn’t change that.

Every rule change breaks current rules and precedent. That’s what a rule change is.
If Republicans want to reserve for themselves the power to do in the future what they’re excoriating the Democrats for now, they should just admit that. But that makes their indignant protests sound like bullshit.
14.10.2025 16:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
The consequence is that when Dems are in power they would be able to pass CRs without needing 60 votes for cloture, which isn’t much of a consequence for them.
For Republicans, it means they wouldn’t be able to do the thing they’re lambasting Dems for now. So I can only take them so seriously.

Which, by the way, is exactly how the “you get to use it once per session” rule was created. By overturning a previous rule.
There are at least 161 exceptions to the filibuster that the Senate has approved since 1969. They could just make another saying you can’t filibuster CRs.

First, a senator raises a point of order that contravenes a standing rule. The presiding officer overrules the point of order based on Senate rules and precedents; this ruling is then appealed and overturned by a simple majority vote. Which establishes a new rule.

It feels like you’re having trouble getting past the fact that the Senate can change ANY rule with 51 votes.

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.
She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.
This is not about immigration enforcement.
It's about terrorizing Americans.

NBC is attempting to label Vance as “normal,” but what he actually aspires to is whatever level of lying morally bereft sycophantic toadying that allows him to slide into more and more powerful positions in order to enrich himself and his friends at the expense of the American people.
