The incense itself is a bit different from regular incense, it more so is similar to candles, the stick draws in the oil and heats it up [using small runes engraved on the stick] to create the incense. These are usually used for quick makeshift "scented candles" or if you're otti, can't be bothered to buy a candle. The oil itself here is used after hair removal, but bonus use is the nice smell for otti)

Thanks for pointing this out, I knew that in the early 20th century changing ones clothes was almost as powerful as anything else you could do, because of how gendered clothes were, but hadn't thought too much about what it means for that and other things to be gone
