Yeah, I think it’s a genuine mistake when you see a company hiring really high end painters for their box art. Somebody using airbrushed OSL and NMM metal techniques is gonna be potentially really discouraging for a person buying their first model to paint.

Perhaps it’s changed in recent years! I know they didn’t used to be constrained to studio paints, particularly when the FW team was operating more independently.

Yeah this is all very appealing. I love a good tile layer like Carcasonne so this looks to be a sweet spot game for me. Will definitely be ordering a copy when I can.

I think that’s a big part of it but I also have heard from credible sources that they want to keep all the official paint scheme tutorials achievable for the average hobbyist.

The Studio painters almost certainly make extensive use of non-Citadel paints and such. Years back they quasi-officialy released the first edition Horus Heresy legion schemes and they’re like 90% Tamiya
