In the past 3 weeks, how many hours did state and district leaders spend frantically re-arranging budgets, contracts, and staffing plans to address the budget uncertainty? Did that improve student outcomes?
What a ridiculous waste of scarce resources.

The administration & their useful idiots say editors & peer reviewers are gatekeepers with an agenda. As @jeremyberg.bsky.socialβs shows, the only agenda is scientific integrity.
There is no substitute for a fair, evidence-driven, informed approach to editorial decisions.

Heard from #AHRQ that the entire grants staff has been let go! They are unable to issue funds for grants already funded, let alone fund new grants. This is outrageous and will make Americans poorer and sicker. Why? A brief thread about just some recent AHRQ-funded research: #MedSky #HealthPolicy

Iβm no political strategist but if Trump wants to distract us from the Epstein Files, he could try fully funding NIH, EPA, NASA, NOAA, NSF, USDA, USGS, etc. Weβd be so shocked that we wonβt stop talking about it for months.

Thereβs not enough reporting, IMHO, on the targeted attacks on research and science across multiple fields: education, health, medicine, environment. Presumably, if they are killing the reporting and accountability mechanisms, they know what theyβre doing will have negative consequences.

In past week, early signs from Congress are: "we don't want to destroy NSF".
However, STEM education and trainingβwhich are vital to NSF's missionβremain particularly targeted.

We need to be really clear about what the role of USED is, b/c the majority of public education decisions are at the state and local level. USED is about enforcement of students' civil rights and supplemental funding to assure a baseline of education for all students. 1/x @johnpavlovitz.bsky.social

Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities
The move would undo years of work, leaving advisory councils understaffed, and without the full expertise needed for reviews.
NEW: In an unprecedented move, the NIH will soon disinvite dozens of scientists about to take positions on advisory councils that make final decisions on grant funding.
NIH staff were told to select others aligned with the Trump administration and told to expect placements by political appointees.
