Dunno if you're aware of 1986 Studio Session running on Mac Plus and software mixing 6 freeform waves on the fly. A few years later, it was revised to 8 channels in the follow up Super Studio Session but offered 11 kHz and 22 kHz depending on your machine. The audio engine by legend Steve Capps

the buttons on the dialog say: Eject, Drive, Open and Cancel.

I checked out this MOD player on a Mac Plus and modified it to have a standard file picker. The project is from 'MIST' who ported mod tracker playing code from Atari to the Mac (makes sense, both 68000 cpus!).

Yes, if I bring it to my 486 that has PicoGUS that can set itself as a Tandy sound card. Just need to know the port number and its mode of operation.

Not a single human being asked for it, but I coded a small C program in msdos Borland C++ 3.1 to take in MIDI signals and reroute it to the PC speaker. Some sort of polyphony is next on the docket!

Silicon Beach Software were the hottest Macintosh software company in the 80's. They got me with 'Airborne!', slayed me with Dark Castle and kept me engaged with World Builder. I try to stop myself from getting boxed software, but can't resist with beefy manuals.

None of this is easy when there's no API. It took a week to add that in fully.

made it so it was portable to other projects, number of files at once on screen is a parameter, and you can switch "pages" of your folder 3/3

I'm now happy it takes in up to 4 filtered file extensions (just like the Macintosh toolbox standard get file dialog!), will scan a folder for them and sort them alphabetically, while still forcing a '..' move up a level option, display folders in the beginning and also sorted among themselves.2/3

I worked my BUTT off for this revision of my C coded program: F256Amp that runs on the F256K2 and uses its VS1053b sound chip to its limits.

The main thing I added was a file picker in text mode, that was a bit of a heinous part.

There were already 64 "hardware sprites" in the F256 platform, but now, there are 128 for this new extra F256K2 core that also doubles the MHz from 6 to 12.

F256K2, I finally mastered playback type 1 MIDI files convincingly with my C programming. I relaunched my midplayer program as 'cozy MIDI' and added a file picker text UI. No more need to exit out and go back in to play more files!

W.C.A.T. (Wing Commander AllTinker) Overhaul Mod by AllTinker An extensive overhaul mod for Wing Commander for DOS. Available for Windows

If you use a vintage PC to run games, keep reading. A notorious game that has an impact over what vintage PC you pick since it wants a 386SX25-DX33. Or you use a CPU limiter or cache disabler. No longer! since a patch was released a few weeks ago. alltinker.itch.io/wcat
