Dallas says it will begin process of closing shingle plant in Joppa Climate advocates welcomed the news of the factory's possible closure, but said they will continue to hold the city accountable.

During yesterday's District 7 Budget Town Hall, the Fund the Fund campaign accomplished the first step towards removing one of the Toxic Twins of Dallas, TAMKO.

“I can say confidently that I am prepared to start the five-signature memo process so that we can at least start with an appraisal of TAMKO in Joppa,” Bazaldua said, “which is the very first step for us to be able to revisit the non-conforming use of that property.”

The City of Dallas has prevented residents from amortizing properties that are polluting their communities and have now created an unfunded budget to remove nonconforming uses.

We DEMAND the City of Dallas fund the nonconforming use fund to finally shut down GAF and TAMKO!

Our goal of the Toxic Twins Campaign: Fund the Fund is the amortization of GAF and TAMKO, two asphalt shingle manufacturing plants located in the West Dallas and Joppa neighborhoods. These facilities are identified as major polluters in communities experiencing significant environmental harm.
