15.02.2026 01:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I finally caught up with the men's long program and omg wtf
I feel like the ice became sentient and decided that it hated everyone
Oh this is weird actually. Now all of a sudden whenever I post I see my own face grinning at me a little too big.
How do you all stand this lol
While I was at it, and since I have an author photo I actually like these days, I decided to update my profile picture.
Yes, it's still me!
For the first time since back in 2008 when baby Ada made a Twitter account, I am no longer a light fixture.
Took some time today and made a bunch of little website updates!
In particular, ur fav now has a Purchase Links page: www.ada-hoffmann.com/books/ignore...

Which is uhhh not always great for my stress levels when the other team is the US
14.02.2026 01:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I noticed this when I tried watching wheelchair sports at Paris too, but being emotionally invested in one of these team-y, "get the ball in the net" sports is completely different from other types of sports. There's so much more of a sense that the other team is a threat to defend against.
14.02.2026 01:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have gotten to the point of cheering out loud whenever Canada scores a hockey goal despite being patently alone in my home office
14.02.2026 01:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Okay that was pretty hilarious, yes!
14.02.2026 00:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ok and no disrespect to the athletes but doubles luge is really funny?? You just do the whole course sitting in your partner's lap?? Who came up with this
13.02.2026 22:58 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I have lost count already of how many Olympics things have made me full on ugly cry, but Lindsey Vonn's awful ski crash was one, and Gilles & Porier's heartbreakingly beautiful free dance was another.
13.02.2026 22:17 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1OMG and the Spanish team with their Dune dance. Totally otherworldly.
13.02.2026 20:38 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ok but the Czech ice dance team with their Matrix routine where they're slo mo dodging each other like bullets π€©
13.02.2026 19:09 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is true π
13.02.2026 18:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0John I know nothing about skiing. I have never skiid π
13.02.2026 18:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Watching Nordic combined now and hearing the commentators talk about the history of this sport and, honestly, why do we not have a sci fi movie where ice planet heroes fight the evil space empire across hostile mountain terrain on rocket skis. Luke Skywalker on Hoth could never.
13.02.2026 17:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Actually I am not sure where curling and boccia fit into this hierarchy but I'm gonna say they are a weird type of category 2
13.02.2026 16:10 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0(Any sport ending with -athlon is obviously a combination sport that can include more than one category at once)
13.02.2026 16:07 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Like,
1: Literally (but nonlethally) fight your opponent
2: Maneuver a small object past your opponent's defenses
3: Race your opponent
4: Do a simple, objectively measurable thing better than your opponent
5: Do cooler stunts than your opponent
Speaking of nationalism, I have decided that all Olympic sports (summer & winter) can be classified into a few categories based on how far they have been abstracted away from actual war.
13.02.2026 16:04 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I am also 2 days delayed in my viewing due to work, travel, and my stubborn insistence on watching everything that interests me in chronological order, but: my goodness, that men's figure skating short program! SO much fun.
13.02.2026 01:15 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the little things I really like about CBC's Olympics coverage is that a bunch of the ads have Paralympians in them too.
13.02.2026 01:13 β π 31 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Amazing.
11.02.2026 23:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"...but the last two lines tempted me break my scale so I could give it an 11."
I didn't even know JJA had been sent a review copy. I am speechless. Best blurb. Thank you so much, John!!

"I canβt remember the last time I was so sad to see a book end, while also feeling it would have been criminal if it hadnβt ended exactly where and how it did. I almost never give anything a 10 out of 10, but I could give Ignore All Previous Instructions no other rating...
11.02.2026 21:24 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0OMG. Look at this amazing blurb from @johnjosephadams.com:
"Ignore All Previous Instructions is a revelation. It hooked me from page one and never loosened its hold on me, building and building toward an emotional catharsis that will simultaneously destroy you and give you life...
Tonight!
09.02.2026 13:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Luge looks like it would be fun to do but also watching luge makes me dizzy :(
09.02.2026 01:47 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The pairs girl who literally fell off her chair in the kiss & cry
08.02.2026 23:59 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love the way the Japanese team leaps in the air and screams when they see how high their scores are.
