Researched yesterday while writing my short story:
-Feminism and witchcraft among the Old Saxon peoples in the 1100s.
-The intricacies of scaling up hospital beds in a national emergency in the Netherlands in the 2030s.
Yes, these two are related π

01: A girl labeled 'Artists' is holding a drawing tablet and pen under her arm. She is wearing round glasses and a blue sweatshirt. She has messy dark-brown hair and a brown skin-tone. She says "We don't really wanna MAKE A.I. art."
02: A guy labeled 'Art Enjoyers' holds his hand out while speaking. She is wearing a purple and yellow hawaiian shirt with a floral pattern over a white t-shirt, and has red hair and a light skin-tone. He says "We don't really wanna SEE A.I. art."
03: Behind them both, there is a cute girl in a business suit with a pink tie. She is blushing a bit and has pink eyeshadow, and looks upset. Her messy shoulder-length hair is parted in the middle, and held by two hairclips: one that looks like a red arrow pointing down, and one that looks like a green arrow pointing up. She says "Um ... I-Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?" She is labeled 'Shareholders'.
04: She puffs up her cheeks and pouts, a tear is on the verge of falling from one of her eyes. 'Artist Enjoyers' Guy is now in front of her yelling "AH!! SHAREHOLDERS-CHAN!!" while 'Artists' Girl is in front of her yelling "WE'RE SORRY WE HURT YOU!!!!"

I just started rewatching Buffy (for like the third time in 15 years), this time together with my partner who has never seen it.
She's enjoying it so far, and we have also arrived at Spike and Drusilla (she's not a fan) in season 2. She has no idea what she is in for!!!

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

Hi yes my short story "To Access Seven Obelisks, Press Enter" is in @lightspeedmagazine.com's latest issue!
While the story isn't available to read for free until August 28, if you want to pick up the whole issue and read it AND an author spotlight about the piece... that would be neat... π₯Ίπ

A big room with a black ceiling. There book cases stretching almost to the ceiling on all the walls. They're filled with old parchment books, bound in white and brown leather.
It's a room in the Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp. Imagine multiple centuries of rich print press owners that liked to collect and show off books. This was one of their favorite rooms.
There are wooden and stone busts of classical writers on tables and on top of the book cases. Two huge globes stand on the floor.
Nearly done writing my 2nd short story!
On vacation in Belgium right now, checking out old libraries in the Printing Press museum in Antwerp π€
When I get back i'll do more editing on my 1st story before sending it off to sensitivity readers. Anybody have connections in Botswana?π€

a scene from the animated hobbit movie. Gandalf suddenly appears from behind a tree after seeing some smoke rings blowing his way. He's standing there, smoke rings in his face, while wearing a baggy grey robe, holding a wooden staff, with a cloudy background against a lush landscape. The image is captioned "Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. A little baked. Questing in my lane. Conjuring. Flourishing."

My work has been stolen now by both image and writing AI generating models.
YES, STOLEN. Itβs already hard enough being an author and artist and trying to find an audience, much less build a freelance business and a βbrandβ. Itβs hard enough to be an artist in a world that devalues art WITHOUT multi-billion dollar corporations STEALING from us. Iβve spent my entire life and professional career fighting for a space in this world as a creative. Itβs been made exponentially harder by AI. I donβt know where Iβm going with this.
I canβt find a job in my field even with a lifetime of skills and experience.
Iβm just sad, defeated, and mourning the slow death of my dreams. Stop using AI! Weβre all poor. Itβs tempting, I know.
But all youβre doing is stealing from your piers.
And corporations are stealing from ALL of us.
Idk π₯²

The cover of Star Wars novel 'Shatterpoint'. It seems to be in letter format (or something close to it), standing upright.
Bold colors: golds, greens, reds and purple. Centerpiece is Mace Windu, the proud black jedi wearing a simple light brown robe, looking forbidding towards us while stepping out of a dark, menacing jungle. Our eyes are drawn to his bright purple light saber, which lights everything up with a soft, purple hue.
In the background we see Depa Billaba (played by actress Dipika O'Neill Joti), whose face is staring at us from the jungle.
There are lots of words on the book cover. At the top on a dull gold strip we have 'Legends'. Below it in huge red letters 'STAR WARS'. Below that in gold 'Shatterpoint'. Below that in white 'A clone wars novel'.
At the bottom in white: "Matthew Stover. New York Times bestselling author of Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Traitor".
At the bottom right, quasi embossed on gold in black letters: "With a prologue by George Lucas!"
Read and watch tip:
-Read 'Heart of Darkness' (1899) by J. Conrad,
-Then watch 'Apocalypse Now' (1979) by F. F. Coppola,
-Then read 'Shatterpoint' (2003) by M. W. Stover.
It's difficult to describe how good (and horrific) these pieces of media are. How they build upon and strengthen each other.

Crushed seashells cover the paths of a big indoor garden. Bright green islands of tall plants and bushes. A cute cat approaches us looking interested.
One of the indoor garden's cats decided to join me on this lovely day.
Got an idea for some SF poetry just before I fell asleep last night. Now I'm trying to make something work with last night's vague but insistent 'Tech Broligarchy War' musings.
