Wishing for him to be gone. Soonest.
The best movie review ever.

I'm pretty excited that when I see an offensive post, I open up the "mute words & tags" window, put in the word, and when I close the pop-up, the post is gone.

"It gets dark sometimes, but the morning comes."
This speech would be just as relevant at the 2028 convention.
Thank you. I don't know this movie, and I definitely need some joyful.
17.02.2026 02:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Ironically, I think the movies my daughters & I have watched repeatedly since they were teens fit the bill: The Big Year (we like the version narrated by John Cleese), The Devil Wears Prada, Midnight in Paris, and Julie & Julia. Thinking of food movies there's Big Night, but we only watched it once.
17.02.2026 01:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0that Iโm reminded why I do this work.
Because I, too, want to age with dignity and the freedom to feed my curiosity rather than manage my fear. And because dignity in aging should never be a privilege of geography, race, or wealth, but a guarantee of our shared humanity.
What a great photo.
I'll add my voice to the chorus of those praising Robert Duvall. He really did elevate the films he was in. Such presence onscreen. I still have my program for Apocalypse Now that they handed out at the theatre.
I gasped when I read this. Then I imagined them making it into a slogan for hats and license plate frames.
16.02.2026 20:44 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thank you so much for the kind words. I got teary seeing this photo, imagining her cooking. It's wonderful to hear that you are publishing her writings. I was at Barnard in the previous century, and I've never forgotten how Quandra made me feel as a writer, and as a woman. Valued and validated. ๐

15.02.2026 21:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My daughter is music-first and I'm lyrics-first.
And I'm just gonna throw this out there: I think music-first people are also those who can do homework with television/streamers on. It's all soundscape.
lol

No chocolate yesterday.
Remedying that with the delicious cake my daughter made today.
Do we love each other?
"Refuses" is a red (almost typoed "read" :D) flag.
Still, at my age?
It's so good to see her name here. She was one of my favorite professors, and when she invited us students into her home, it was like walking into my romanticized vision of what college could be. I hope I get the chance to see those books some day.

15.02.2026 16:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The image accompanying that article was so disgusting, if I were Mamdani and (was that supposed to be) Crockett, I would sue. That creep belongs nowhere near them, let alone dominating them.

My daughter made ramen.
The daughter who drinks cherry pepper juice from the jar and eats sriracha by the spoonful thinks it might be too spicy. ๐๐คฏ

15.02.2026 01:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A screenshot of an email from my daughter. It reads: here's a funny quote from the speech "A pound of feathers is as heavy as a pound of iron--and about as hard, if you sit on it long enough." From Self-Made Men https://teachingamericanhistory.org/document/self-made-men/
Another screenshot from an email with Frederick Douglass quotes, including, "Flung overboard in the midnight storm on the broad and tempest-tossed ocean of life; left without ropes, planks, oars or life-preservers, they have bravely buffetted the frowning billows and have risen in safety and life where others, supplied with the best appliances for safety and success, have fainted, despaired and gone down forever." From Self-Made Men https://teachingamericanhistory.org/document/self-made-men/
Happy Birthday, Frederick Douglass!
I shared his writing with my daughter when she was in middle school, and she connected with him as a person, not just a historical figure. She called him her bestie, "Freddie D," and started emailing me quotes that she liked.
