Halloween is the perfect example of how the time spent in or around cars are the most dangerous periods of any day for most Americans. And it is rarely acknowledged on a wide scale.

From the administration that has systematically removed historical representations of people of color, from the regime that reinstalled confederate statutes and names of military bases

Sincerity is not the problem As is inevitably the case after an election β€”Β and is especially the case after an election with an unexpected result β€” allies of the losing presidential candidate in 2024 looked for people to blame. O...

Yesterday I wrote about the effort by center-left pundits to police what people are passionate about.

a key thing about vought β€” and all of these guys β€” is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

This is such an important point.

The U.S. is winning more Nobel prizes than any other country because of the immigrants we allow in.

I have to imagine these scientist are not all white South Africans and couldn’t all afford $100k to enter.

JD Vance has had such a good life in this country. It’s been overwhelmingly kind and gracious to him (and his dumb ass book). He is far wealthier than most. Yet he oozes with contempt for 80% of Americans.

Where’s JD’s gratitude? All I hear is complaining.

the funny thing about the constant misappropriation of MLK is that the guy left a massive body of writing specifically aimed at explaining his views of those of the movement he represented to the broad public. it is extremely easy to know what the guy thought on a variety of subjects and yet

The Washington post
Democracy Dies in Darkness
Reports of rough tactics don't bother Aaron Ely, either. A former bantamweight MMA fighter who went by the ring name "The Cyborg," Ely settled on an IT career after his hip gave out. He limped into the hiring expo last week hoping ICE could use his computer expertise. He said he felt he was no longer able to advance in the private sector because the market is crowded with candidates from India willing to do the work for less.
"I keep seeing these memes where Indians are bragging about taking our tech jobs," said Ely, 36. "So I said, 'Oh yeah? Well I'm going to work with these guys that are going to arrest you, slam your face on the pavement and send you home.'"

fascism is the ideology for insecure losers who know they do not provide any value in a functioning society and instead of learning any tangible skills they would rather lash out with violence

This isn’t the first time private companies have funded additional transit service (see BeyoncΓ© at FedEx Field or Taylor Swift at MetLife Stadium) but this is the first one I’m aware of that’s followed a massive gutting of core service capacity.

FanDuel partners with SEPTA to restore Broad Street Line service for home opener The FanDuel sponsorship covers free rides home for fans. The free rides from NRG Station begin at halftime and continue through the end of service.

Not sure how to feel about this.

Private companies funding transit could provide a much-needed boost, but it could also set a bad precedent for funding only the service that serves big-money events.

Thoughts?

It's a lie. Stipulating "explicit" carries the implication that he *does* have some other kind of informal, traditional or implied authority over elections, when he does not.

Don't print lies in the newspaper.

RFKJr needs to resign or be fired.

TIL the term "windshield bias" from @davidzipper.bsky.social's new article. He's using it to refer to reporters' inclination to focus on the inconvenience of speed cameras rather than safety benefits.

He cites a survey of these attitudes among Americans:

Once again standing in a cramped airport-style @amtrak.com line, knowing that it’s unnecessary.

For example, when I take intercity trains from Glasgow Central I just walk up, scan my ticket, and board. The waiting area is spacious and the departures boards are huge.

Why can’t we do this?!

Are we heading for a world where no one ever needs to talk to another human being? Self-service tills, apps for shopping and takeaways, silent hair salons, driverless taxis – why are we going to extreme lengths to avoid engaging with each other?

A major way we avoid talking to another human being is by driving cars.

You're living through a major technological revolution right now and it has nothing to do with AI.

The United States is in danger of missing it and getting left behind because our corrupt President wants us to be buyers-of-last-resort for fossil fuels owned by his paymasters in KSA and Russia.
