A fitting enough epitaph for the human project.

This person is one hundred percent correct and itโ€™s scary af. We will never โ€œmedia literacyโ€ our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.

My first earnings in the UK as an EU immigrant were ยฃ18k. In ten years, I had worked my way up to ยฃ37.5k. But even that would not have been enough.

I'm glad I left the country on my own accord just before Brexit, otherwise I might be facing deportation soon.

There are those 'Great Replacement' believers in the current Finnish government as well (members of the party Perussuomalaiset, or the Finns Party in English). It's vile.

Right. He had to put some effort into specifically choosing them.

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrowโ€™s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me ๐Ÿ‘ŒWeโ€™re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. Itโ€™s been a roaring success. For every โ‚ฌ1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got โ‚ฌ1.46 back. Canโ€™t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Damn. This is amazing. ยฃ325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Thanks for the well wishes. Yes, somehow the external issues cannot be touched. And we appear to have a "low productivity" problem in the workforce (say those who profit off of said workforce), and of course stick must always be used instead of a carrot to fix this...

I will never forget when, in therapy during a severe burnout, the psychologist emphasised the need to make me 'more resilient'. There was a hurricane inside my head, screaming "WHY THE HELL DO I NEED TO BE MORE RESILIENT WORKING 90-HOUR WEEKS?! THIS IS INSANE!"

Years later, I'm still not okay.

And that is why I could not get a LIBRARY CARD in the UK some years ago. Everything is electronic these days and the only official letters I still got delivered in paper form were from my bank. Who used my initials + surname...

Turns out destabilising a whole country costs next to nothing if you get the right (sic) people to do it.

Absolutely. I would say I have no close friends, but I'm sure there are people who look at my life and say I have, in fact, five close friends. Some might even say eight, if they counted my family in that.

id be worried if theyd been banning books the last few years, throwing aside vaccines for survival of the fittest and/or talking about government sponsored murder of the destitute

the kimmel thing is bad but as long as they arent rounding people up indiscriminately based on race, building concentration camps and talking about eradicating those they deem sexual deviants, i think weโ€™ll be ok

I don't live in the UK anymore, but I used to think anyone would be better than the Tories we had in power at the time. It is really difficult for me now to come to terms with the fact that Labour is somehow still not better than the Tories. How in the world did that happen? /rhetorical question

They violate Finland's (and Sweden's and Poland's etc.) airspace with military aircraft every now and then. They violated Estonian airspace just two days ago and most of UK's airspace violations are by the Russians. It happens all the time.

if we want to talk about why so much outright inhumanit and evil has been totally normalized we could start with how much online platforms actively reward hostile and antisocial behavior with money and attention

A reassuring statement. A positive outcome of all of this is that we are seeing bridges being built between other countries besides the USA. I'm sure the EU and Canada, for instance, will benefit from increased collaboration and trade between us.
