Most jobs are pretty good about working around availability. Even jobs without "concrete" schedules, that create them on the fly, are pretty good about it.
If you get a second job and find out what your concrete schedule is, just tell your first job that you can't come in, going forward, those days.

My writing partner also uses them and gets self conscious for the SAME reason
