It gives the impression that fairly extreme anti-immigrant views are mainstream. Are they? Who knows? But the moderate politicians seek to throw them a bone. To appease. They move *towards* them and not away.

Which is dangerous if they’re real.

And monumentally stupid if they are manufactured.

Either way, they make the background mood music higher in pace and higher in volume. You start to acclimatise to it. A year or two ago you’d be horrified if someone felt able to say online some of the stuff these accounts say every 20 minutes.

Maybe they are real. Maybe they follow eachother because they share these ‘interests’. Maybe they don’t have identifying features because spewing these views would get any reasonable person sacked. Maybe they are organising via lists.

But. What if they aren’t.

What if these are convincing bots.

Are all of these lads real?

Each account has between 10-250ish followers. Often accounts just like them. No real identifying features to speak of. Just hate. And the almost automatic magnetism to reply in a similar way to others, using similar language.

These aren’t American accounts. They’re (quite literally) all men. They’re all British based. They often have flags in their profiles. And they’re organised. They are attracted by a topic and they gather. Like the old Twitter ‘lists’ but much better.

Which made me wonder.
