For me it's that it has a largely incoherent plot, and I really don't like the CE aesthetic. Genuinely I have more respect for the fujoshi fans of the CE than people that like it for the Mobile Suits. Wing? Also incoherent, but it's got so much style.

I think the Endless Waltz movie is quite good, but the only series I like less is Seed Destiny.

I mean the one series that's bigger in the US than Japan, Wing, is also big off it's female fan base. I don't even like wing but I get the appeal to that audience.

ZZ's biggest flaw is that it's not Zeta, but is a direct, immediate continuation of it. I think if there was more distance between it and Zeta (both in and out of universe) it would be easier to take on its own terms because it does have a strong arc to it.

I'm also not sure that legacy gundam boomers get much out of it either, because it uses the legacy elements so poorly. The writing is some of the worst in the franchise with it's main saving gracing being that it's only 12 episodes so it hurts less.

Makes sense, as a monetization model, build fighters needs new main series to be made since it's all about getting additional uses out of existing molds.
