The way out of the mess is going to result in some ugly changes but it will probably be for the better in the end.

What scares me more is that the federal government backed a lot of these mortgages. They can cover the loss but it will cause them to be constrained in recovery.

My fear is things will get even worse before they get better. Anything substantive to help housing affordability will cause the existing bubble to pop, things will then get super ugly
